    Custom Ti cam cover screws..

I was nearly not going to bother doing these as they require a lot of work.,and they are pretty much hidden from sight...(not completely though..)

That said they were on my list of "2005 Revisit" upgrades......and I fancied the challenge.

Nice pristine stock cam cover screws are more than adequate and do look really good...especially in conjunction with a gloss black powder coated cam cover

But as with everything.,there is always room for improvement..,so lets get to it with some 20mm dia Grade 5 Ti bar..

My plan is to machine each of these as a two part Ti component as opposed to the one piece OEM offerings.

That means the mating base of the main body "shank" will need some special machining to accept suitable '0' ring "gaskets"...

As I say each time in any of my "machining" threads or posts.,you have to mentally plan the machining sequence before starting anything....and this project is no different.

So lets get the "through hole" drilled and the "recess" for the "0" ring..(note you are only going 2/3rds depth the "thickness" of the '0' ring to "encapsulate" the '0' ring yet leave a protrusion so it seals...)

    Name: 20191029_194441.jpg
Views: 213
Size: 2.29 MB

Next the main body "shank" is machined...(it is imperative this shank is machined 100% accurately both in Length and diameter..(and all six are exactly the same.!)

Final machining of the '0' ring recess..

    Name: 20191028_144246.jpg
Views: 212

Ok so the six shanks are now machined spot on and parted off leaving adequate material for the screw head machining detail..('0' ring present for test fitting on all six..)

I will be using six number 30mm M6 Ti cap head screws (however they will be machined..)
    Name: 20191029_131119.jpg
Views: 207
Size: 2.71 MB

As such and per my own design I set about machining the main body "heads"..
    Name: 20191028_152748.jpg

    Nine @ 1.6mm face detail holes @ 40░ intervals through 360░ circumference..
    Name: 20191029_104831.jpg
Views: 204

The Ti cap head screws also machined in conjunction with their main body host..
    Name: 20191029_131509.jpg
Views: 196
Size: 2.77 MB

And a "datum sleeve" machined so I could machine a little groove to accept the inner dia of the '0' ring "gasket"..(this has to be 100% accurate and consistent across all six and the main body host of each screw..)

Very happy I pushed myself into making these as they came out just as I'd planned..

I'll fit all six now over on my build thread..(http://www.zrxoa.org/forums/showthre...=1#post5012961)
and even though they are not as visible as I would like...I know they are there ..

    Till next time

They look fantastic Brian - question - why did you choose to use only a small o-ring on the bolt? why not one on the flange as well?

And, what are the chances of having a set made ? :-)

The small '0' ring "gasket" on the base of the two part "bolt" arrangement is so there is no seepage in that area (being two components as opposed to the single OEM)

They do however also incorporate an additional "gasket" at the flange and that is the stock OEM gasket making sure to fit it so the "metal" surface of it faces "up" (against the underside of my bolt flanges..)

They were quite labour intensive.,and when .."I set my shoulder to the wheel" ..on this little project I had to persuade myself I 'Really wanted them' (for this bike) before proceeding...

(My 2005 is intended to be a "one off"...)

Not planning on another set any time soon...
