    Refinishing Eccentrics

So mine are pretty banged up from years of abuse and as the whole bike looks better, they are really standing out as a weak point.

Would I be able to get away with lightly sanding them on a flat sheet or something similar? I dont have any fancy tools like lathes etc on hand unfortunately (nor the skill to use a lathe).

    Thoughts?

Yep, that will work well. Maybe a small file to clean up the inside edges.

Work the grit finer and then decide if you want to polish the faces.

Cheers for that, there's plenty of fixing needed on them.

I'll probably grab some new or Stites ones when budget allows, this is just the solution through until then

Polishing sounds good, that actually is something I can do pretty well - although might be a little too blingy for the look I am after

Unfortunately some of the marring is way too deep to fix without shaving a good 2-3mm off - so this will have to do. Not perfect, but much better than before.

I am always intrigued as to how or why the previous owner ever allowed them to get into that state..??

I guess everyone treats things differently.........,but even so..??

This bike is glad to have You as it owner now !

Keep chipping away at it Dirk....

Brian, I believe the PO never serviced it but had their local shop do it.

Donít sell yourself short, you had the ability to get the rear wheel off and clean up that eccentric nicely. Thatís a helluva lot more than some people could ever imagine.

    Re: Refinishing Eccentrics

That came out great , BTW do not polish any surface that contacts the swingarm and/or bore, maybe actually hit with red scothbrite and clean well with solvent, remove and clean pinch bolts, torque (dry) pinch bolts to spec, etc. eccentrics have been known to slip and damage if improperly installed, a light coat of grease or anti seize on axle and threads won't hurt either.

    Thanks all

That's a good point Allen, I will give the surfaces that mate with the swingarm a scotchbrite to ensure no slippage - thanks for the heads up.

Well in true ZRXOA fashion I wasnt able to leave well enough alone, I have gone back and knocked a bit more meat off the eccentrics and refinished them once again - I feel like I can live with the outcome now.

They came up awesome Diggs. I can't believe how rough they were to start with. I've seen some shithouse mechanics in my time, but that's pretty bad.
