    Trade ‘77 Kz1000 for ‘01 Zrx1200?

Hoping to get some slightly unbiased opinions. I was browsing my local CL and saw a ‘01 Zrx (in black) for $3400obo. The Zrx has a black Kerker megaphone system, pod filters and rejetted carbs. Also has newer tires. The seller wants to get back onto a Kz900/1000. I already have a few Kz’s and wouldn’t mind getting something “newer”. I’m asking the masses if you would keep the Kz or try trading for the Zrx. I’m aware they’re apples to oranges (both fruit but different). My Kz is shown below.

If your KZ is original and as nice as it looks my opinion would be that it is worth more than the ZRX. I have an 11 and 12 that I would trade you for tomorrow! 👍

The Kz is as delivered from the factory except for a Martek ignition, quality reproduction petcock, shorter OEM LTD mirrors and new period-correct IRC Gs-11 tires.

The paint isn’t great and has a small dimple on the right sideof the tank. A “good” survivor is how I’d describe it.

If you're serious about a trade work something out with hr31hr, you'd be hard pressed to find a better ZRX. If you don't make the trade consider one of these, I have two ZRXes and no KZ1000's at the moment.

I'm not sure why my first pics are so small. Can't see much details...try these. The HD front signals are gone and replaced with correct ones.

I already have my ‘78 Kz1000, a ‘76 900 dragbike project and another 900 bare frame so not like it’s my only one. :/

I really wouldn’t mind a Z900RS but those are definitely not in the cards.

The condition of your bike is hard to judge, which effects the value greatly. What is the condition of the ZRX and mileage? I say do your home work and do the math. That being said I know which bike I would enjoy driving more and would be less headache. I have a few RZ 350’s, sure there fun and Nice to look at but I find. Myself on the ZRX a whole lot more. I say call him up and go out for ride on each other’s bikes. I would not call ZRX’s a dime a dozen but are definitely easier to find. Maybe. Not a true classic yet, but they are on there way IMO. The Kerker is a nice addition! I’d ask if they are willing to boot some cash , never know. Clean ZRX’s tend to be hard to find if priced right and tend to sale quickly.

Depending on your local MC sales / values.. I'd sell the KZ and buy the ZRX and use the left over $$ to Mod it to your tastes..

If the ad is still up this weekend, I may throw the idea out of a trade plus cash on his end. He may bite, or might not. If he doesn’t go for it then no harm.

How much do yall think that KZ will sell for? The ZRX is a much better bike and I think a 3500 dollar KZ is harder to sell.

The ZRX IS a much better bike butt, there’s a bunch of little kids out there that never experienced an air cooled inline four with 80 hp, not to mention the spindly forks and Weasley swingarm bushings. Oh, I love ‘em too and I’ve had my share of those, maybe just one more time...oh, to answer your question I’d bet that stock KZ 1000 will bring twice the asking price of the 2001 ZRX -$3400 x 2 =$6800. Supply and demand baby.

NADA puts the KZ at $2700 good condition all the way up to $9600 in excellent. And average retail on the ZRX At around. $2000.

NADA does not apply to old KZ's. It is valued at whatever someone will pay for it or average sell prices that are found on the internet.

I personally would rather have the ZRX, value aside, the ZRX is just a better bike all in all.

Well, I offered up the Kz as a trade plus cash on the seller’s end. He politely declined as he didn’t want to molest such an original bike. He has my respect.

Noatalgia is fine, and I suffer from it also, but nostalgia ends when you quit looking at it and hit the starter. Been riding Kaws since 1964/65, and nostalgia aside the ZRX is twice the bike the KZ is. Also have a ZX14R, but which one you think is the real favorite?

Agreed. My ‘78 1000 has a 4-1 and will soon have 29’s and drop-in cams. Plus I’ve swapped to wider 17” wheels, better suspension and brakes. It gives me smiles for miles. After buying and riding the stock ‘77, my feeling is “Meh” with the ‘77.
