    Ultrasonic cleaner

I'm ready! I want one! I need one! Just large enough to clean a single carb body. What recommendations and reviews do you fellas have? I want to spend as little as possible, but don't mind spending money where it counts (quality, performance, and flavor).

I've got his one, loaned it out many times, only good reviews from borrowers. It has limitations, I've done a dozen carbs with great success. it will do a bank of 4 if you do top and bottom, two baths.

I've got a little one that's just the right size for one small carb (read Honda Z50 carbs) - I use it ALL THE TIME.

I've been looking at them also. I'm thinking about the 3 liter size would be about right. Lots of options and affordable prices.

I was wondering what that remark was all about, knowing full well that sonic cleaners are truly the ticket to cleaning all the hard to reach places. I couldn't find the fine print anywhere related to the statement that would have made it make sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've been using them since 1968. I would gunk up the Rapidograph pens and dad would let me clean them at his office. They are great, like everything in life there are limitations. Try one.

    Re: Ultrasonic cleaner

I had been using a friends ultrasonic for a few years, but then he moved south and took it back.

I searched around and got one of these (similar) on ebay for $125 shipped from CA. I forget if it is 15 or 22 liter size but I can measure. Fits a whole rack of carbs or broken down no problem.

Works great for all sorts of stuff - gun parts, tools, etc.

    Re: Ultrasonic cleaner

Some people like clean fresh, in this case it might not be good. This helps explains why my results got better with usage. I also got in the habit of cycling it for short times rather than one long continuous treatment. My only complaint is the noise if you are working in the shop with it, after a while it grates on you.

Yes. I put in some rusty header collars and the nuts and they came out great, it was a bit shocking the improvement. I used vinegar in mine and did just a little copper brush to take off the loose stuff. It will remove most of the rust but the parts will still rust unless treated. This is a great way to clean up nuts and bolts or other small hardware.

    Sorry for the delay folks...

Inside tank approximately 12 x 13 with diagonal of 15.75"

Basically like this one ;-) which is 15 liter capacity (just under 4 gallons).

I understand degassing is an important function. Just how important is the degassing function on the unit itself? Can you just manually cycle the unit of and on a few times?

    Re: Ultrasonic cleaner

If you are using an aqueous cleaning solution, use distilled or deionized water. Tap water has dissolved minerals that will reduce the effectiveness of any anion or chelating cleaners you may be using. We use Graymills 40kHz equipment at work for our clean room assembled products. The cheap stuff didn't last very long and we splurged a couple years ago when we had a rare budget surplus. Be careful with too much wattage for aluminum parts.

Nice, it will eat a little more $ in cleaning solutions but the extra capacity will come in handy for the big stuff.
