    Oil from behind carbs

Hey everyone - first time caller, long time listener.
I am just getting familiar with my zrx I bought 4 weeks, and almost 9 thousand miles ago.
Behind the carbs, in between them and the air filter there is a hose coming out of the black air box that has a filter attached to it. It is capped, I uncapped it, and a bunch of oil poured out of it
    Any ideas?

    Re: Oil from behind carbs

Depending on the age of the bike could be perfectly normal. A bit of oil mist collects in the airbox from the engine breather while the bike is running. The engine sucks up most of it but some collects and drains into the little bottle.

What is the year and mileage of the bike?

2nd vote for "can easily be expected."

Clean it out/up. Ride ANUDDER 9K miles!

Thanks! Also: I have a vacuum hose plug on carburetor 3, and only carb 3 - this is normal?

Thanks - sorry I didn't answer your question before - it's a 99' with 29000 miles on it - it's pretty damn clean, and is running better everyday now that shes allowed to run as much as shes always wanted. Started running Castrol full synthetic, put in oem spark plugs, tightened/replaced some moderately weepy carb vacuum and vent hoses, and it's like an "all original" new machine. I'm thoroughly obsessed with it.

Doesn't sound anything like a typical ZRXOA obsession. Expect it to get worse before it gets better.

Your petcock is leaking fuel into the oil and itís coming out the breather and into the airbox.

    Here we go...

Check your oil level, smell for gas at the oil filler.

Nice of you to give him a potential problem without telling him how to actually check for it.

    "running better everyday".

Doubt there's much wrong with it.

    Re: Oil from behind carbs

No, I am pretty confident it was just oil vapor from the crankcase - oil is fine, no gas smell. Thanks for the diagnosis though. One loose little hose on the carb made such a difference in the acceleration. Yes, she is running way better, not that much was "wrong" with it, but I put 20 percent of the miles she has had put on her in 20 years in 8 weeks, definitely breathing better and running smoother.

    Re: Oil from behind carbs

If it is not fuel in the oil, then this is a possibility:

    http://www.kwickstand.net/Hyper-Form...ion_Plugs.html

It is NOT right to be doing it.

Bruce, I was at an event yesterday and on my iFone I could not type out the tests/fixes....he can use the search just fine. These issues pop up weekly.

    Re: Oil from behind carbs

How much oil has it used in the last 8 weeks?

It hasn't run through any oil in any of the last four oil changes I have done in 8 weeks lol - yeah the bike has never been messed with, it's all original as far as I can tell.. it's super clean except a dent in the tank - anyone have a used tank ?

Oh, and my Big Ass Box takes about one quarter the time to R&R a battery and also fits the 18 amp Shorai too.
