    Question about Big Boats

I watch a lot of documentaries and I keep noticing that on larger ships they have these round devices on the bridge windows. I was wondering if they were an antenna of some type or something else.

My thought is that it's heated to prevent freezing or fogging up. Gives a porthole to look out of at least.

Hmmm, if that's the case, I wonder why they don't make it larger, possibly out to the edges of the window?

It's a clearview. That might be a brand name. It spins to stay clear. In cold weather wipers don't work very well. You have to keep spraying the washers. I've wired them but I can't remember if they are heated.

They spin at high RPM's to discharge water- more effective and quicker acting than windshield wipers.
