Hit a 2x4 on the freeway and bent my front wheel.

I may have been exceeding the speed limit by a little bit.

    Glad you are okay Pete.

That happened to my buddy years ago when he owned my rex, it not only bent the front wheel but shattered the internals of the speedometer.

He had to JB weld it back to keep it functioning

Tough way to break in new tyres Pete. Glad the damage was limited to the front wheel and not you and the bike. The last mishap on the freeway was scary enough. I think your bud green12 might be of some help.

    How bad is the damage?

I hit a pothole in the road once, bent both rims.
Workshop managed to roll them out, although the front wheel was a little more bent than the rear.
Rolling out the front actually created a crack which had to be welded. That was over 10 years ago, and has been fine ever since.

It doesn't look too bad, but at low speed I can really feel it. I thought it would be just the opposite. I just put my spare wheel on, about to take it for a test ride, sure hope that is all that was wrong.

Check the forks in the triple clamp, see if they slid up a bit from the impact.

Re: Well Crap, New Tires On, Test Ride, and...

Rode my boys 05 to work last week and got ready to leave work and I spotted a flat small piece of steel in rear tire. We put soapy water on it no leak. Got pliers pulled it out and it was not far in the tire but was between tread. Soapy water again and no leak and no flat. Good thing I spotted that sliver of metal or it would of drove it farther in and the result most likely a flat at some point. All the years I have ridden and 1980 on a KZ650 was a flat front while riding and it went quick and a wobble started. I was on county road and not going real fast so it was all good. Glad you made through that one without any trouble other than rim.

Re: Well Crap, New Tires On, Test Ride, and...

When I had my ZRX, one time I was riding north on I-17 by Cordes Junction, for those of your familiar with AZ. I was moving along at the posted speed (75). Okay, so it might have been closer to 85.

Anyways, the state had been re-paving portions of it. I happened upon a portion. The new asphalt layer was probably at least a full inch or so higher than the old asphalt.

Didn't even see it until it was too late. I hit that new asphalt edge at speed and it liked to have scared the Hell out of me. No frigging signs of any kind warning about it and to slow down.

I pulled over and off the highway within a 1/2 mile or so. I checked out my bike carefully and all looked to be okay. No visual damage of any kind. The sound of the front tire hitting that asphalt edge was sickening sounding.

It wasn't until about a few days later that one of the fork seals began to leak.
