We as a society and a species have passed that point in regards to saving Mother Nature, decades and decades and decades ago.

There ain't no going back! We don't have the motivation or the ability to do that. This planet is so messed up, there's no recovering it.

Just had a multi-agency pursuit of a shooting suspect who then fled into the woods. Got a little damp after 45 minutes but had it been worse out here my feet woulda start webbing. People are nuts.

I just want to say again, I WAS RIGHT. Never should've doubted my initial interpretations & predictions.

That, however offers no condolences to the poor folks in the Bahamas. Those islands are destroyed beyond anything I've seen and I was in Hurricane Andrew in '92. That was bad, real bad but the scale of this in the Bahamas is going to dwarf it tenfold. I can't imagine what the death toll is gonna be. Horrific.

A friend from St Simon's Island left for the Bahamas today and said he didn't know when he would be back, thought it would be a few months. Just going to help, he's a board member for the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and helps a lot with other organizations. The before & after satellite pictures are something to see, can't imagine the devastation. One day everything is normal and the next your whole world is gone along with possessions & keepsakes.

Unfortunately there will be some unscrupulous fundraising just like after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Every dime raised on behalf of the people in the Bahama's should go to them.

yes... that destruction looks absolute. Mother nature showed no mercy.

I just heard the mayor of North Charleston stating that emergency vehicles will be grounded while winds are over 50mph. I find that pretty incredible as I'm pretty sure I rode my 79 XS650 on Interstate 80 by Chicago back in 1985 during an early spring storm, only to read the following day in the paper how the top of Sears tower was swaying in 80+ mph hurricane force winds.

Generally, emergency vehicles, like EMS and fire trucks, are grounded once the winds hit 35 MPH. The coppers- the real heroes in these types of emergencies- almost never go to ground. While the hosedraggers sleep and prepare our meals, we're out doing what needs to be done. I worked every hurricane in my career (except one) and never went to shelter except during Andrew in '92 & that was only cuz my patrol almost got blown off a bridge at the peak of the storm- yes, that was dumb. At that point I figgered enough was enough.

And 3... 2...1... awaiting a response from Tac...

My Mother-In-Law lives in Hope Town on Elbow Cay. The eye passed over them with 185 mph sustained winds. My wife finally got a text from her this morning. They intend to evacuate as soon as they can figure out what to do with the dog and cats.

This is a good video showing the destruction of the outer Cays of the Abacos. It starts with Man-of-War Cay, and then breaks to Hope Town on Elbow Cay (you can see my Mother-In-Laws house in the center of town, it is still standing) and then follows the entire length of Elbow Cay to the south end of the Island.

My friend's post Dorian beach finds.

Sebastian Inlet was sick with wannabe treasure hunters detecting the beach trying to find items from the 1600s Spanish fleet. It rarely happens even though there's lots of old ship wrecks just off shore.

On the ground reports of looting in Marsh Harbour and rumors the looters may move to the outer cays. A reminder that the Bahamas is one big "gun free zone".

For the Bahamians this is a true TEOTWAWKI event. Never surrender your arms. You are the only one responsible for you and your family's personal security. Don't ever abdicate that responsibility to someone else.

A cruise ship company is sailing to the Bahamas on a humanitarian mission to bring evacuees to Florida. The Grand Celebration Humanitarian Cruise will set sail Thursday night from the Port of Palm Beach, and head to Freeport, Bahamas.

The ship will carry food, water and other supplies, as well as volunteers and first responders to the Bahamas. It will return to Florida on Saturday. Bahamian residents looking to evacuate the islands devastated by Hurricane Dorian will be able to ride the cruise to Florida for free, the company said in a Facebook post on Thursday. The Deerfield Beach-based cruise line is also pairing with Mission Resolve to collect money and donated supplies at the cruise’s warehouse. South Florida business leaders and nonprofits created the Bahamian Relief Consortium as part of Mission Resolve to help those affected by the hurricane.“Our hearts go out to all of those impacted, and we felt it was imperative to issue a rapid response, demonstrating our support through action,” Oneil Khosa, CEO of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, said in a press release.

After all the money the cruise lines have made from the Bahamas, they all should be doing this as a matter of course.

This morning we've received news that the mother-in-law, her husband, the dog and the 2 cats are on the ferry to Nassau in the southern Bahamas . From there I imagine they'll make their way to the States.

Probably a road trip to FL in the wife and my future to retrieve them and the critters.

As mentioned, anyone called to help, the Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue is a reputable organization. https://www.facebook.com/HTVFR/

Well maybe the Bahamas isn't completely a "gun free zone".

    http://bahamaspress.com/2019/09/05/l...JBhN8g7XWDVTRc

Many of these folks are descendents from the Tories who wanted to remain British subjects after the American Revolutionary War. They fled the US and settled in the Bahamas in the late 1700s. They are made of pretty stern stuff, and this isn't their first tropical cyclone.
