    Re: New Vette

I am not so sure the LT5 was correctly labeled as a “ClusterFxxx”. I also do not support that the VRod engine was in that same category. LT5 was and still is a fantastic engine. The price tag for the ZR1 ‘Vette back in the day limited its success. It was a massive technology change.

As far as the VRod, it too failed due to majority of the HD buying public “not getting it” when it came to smooth, liquid cooled power. It was not a HD in their eyes. Those who would sling a leg over one, were swayed by non-HD options for less money.

    Just my .02

    Cory
The motor itself wasn't. It was more the outsourcing they had to do to get it built, but it was just a low volume example to show it could be done. Would love to see the option on the Corvette in the future built in house.

Not since the introduction of the 427 in '66 have I been as interested in a Corvette as much.

Team corvette and GM finally validated the Fiero. They killed it off when the 90 Fiero became a threat to corvette and have waited 31 years to bring out a mid engine car. I cant wait til someone buys one and re-badges it as a Fiero. Team corvette may have wanted to build a mid engine car, but never got it past corporate. Pontiac did it first.

Back when they were developing the Fiero, there was an article with a prototype, "P-Car", that had me salivating. It had wide rubber all the way around and a turbocharged aluminum 2.9ltr V6, if I remember correctly.

Apparently it made the Corvette department nervous and they decided to shift it to a, "commuter" car with the horrible Iron Duke 4 banger and skinny tires. Quite disappointing to say the least....

The new Corvette is a bases loaded home run!

It's still a pushrod engine, a dual overhead cam engine would be impossible to fit in the current space as it's much bulkier up top. The engine and clutch in the current model are in front of the driver, transaxle in the back.

They did release the Fiero GT with a V6 and swoopier styling that got me salivating.

    Re: New Vette

I agree with Cory. Everything I've read supports the LT5 being a great engine. The VROD engine is an american liquid cooled V-Twin that just happened to have it's ports, valves and combustion chamber designed by Porsche. But the HD faithful took that to mean Porsche designed the engine and panned it. That and liquid cooling meant it would not be adopted by the faithful. Everyone I've talked to that has ridden a VROD says it's powerful and they liked it.

They did eventually make one that was quick and handled well the last year of production. I need to dig up that article though. The prototype, "P car" was insane. They never got close with a production version

Again they did it - just to advertise a sub 60k $

$5k-7k$ more gets much better brakes, suspension, cooling, tires etc.. GM bs imho - base vette has been a joke and a why for at least a decade now

nice machine, but base vette will cost more to modify than to buy it 'right '
