    Camping on the ZRX

Anyone else do touring and camping on the ZRX? I've been doing it since I got it 5 years ago and love it. Been as far as Nova Scotia, but usually end up staying in the Northeast. It's comfortable enough to pound down some miles, but sporty enough to enjoy the roads once the gear is off. I picked up a used rack this spring and put it to use this time, helps keep stuff from touching the back. Also have a set of Cortech throw over saddle bags I've been using the past 13 years which are great too.

Always fun to see people's faces when they see a "sport bike" with all the stuff on. Also had a few people recognize the ZRX this past weekend which was cool. Was able to get in about 800 miles. Anyway, here are couple pictures from Vermont last weekend, wish I remembered to take more.

    Re: Camping on the ZRX

Havent done any as yet - but my best mate and I will be riding down to the Phillip Island GP shortly - will be about 2500 miles (give or take depending on what we decide to look at on the way there and back).

We plan on doing as much camping as we can to keep the cost down, so we will need to be fully geared up for it. We both have ZRX Venturi Racks and will probably both run soft saddle bags for extra storage. Havent worked out what tents etc we will be using as yet.

    Cant wait!

mcs1987, tuck the edges of the tarp underneath the tent. That’s gonna catch rain and funnel right under the tent.

If you are coming through Coffs I have extra Ventura bags you can zip them together and have 2 bags on 1 rack.

Yup EXACTLY like that, I think that will be enough storage for us.

I've done some camping on ZRX trips; it's fun. But I'm old now so I prefer to sleep inside in a nice comfy motel or travel trailer bed.

    Keep on camping!

I always seem to go alone, lol. I love it, except I take it easy, either on the ZRX or my K1200LT. I slept out over 100 nights several years ago, testing different stuff:stoves, tents, hammocks, fire starting options, food, and then going with the minimum. No tent, only a small tarp and sleeping bag.
Nothing like a cool crisp morning, watching the woods wake up.

I only actually camped once but it doesn't count because we trailered the bikes and then camped. I usually go with a group and we rent a cabin (or house) but I've been itching to do this. I will be going at some point in the very near future.

    Re: Camping on the ZRX

I liked to get in one or two "camping" trips a year on my Weestrom - the point wasn't so much camping as it was getting out to the good roads in BC and then overnighting for cheap - and I put Givi racks on the Rex last year. Now that it's up and running again, I'm hoping to get a run in sometime before the fall.

    Camping on the ZRX

This thread made me put my touring- gear on. MotoCentric soft- sized bags and roll top bag

Been putting off touring until I could get a decent backpacking trip in which I finished a couple weeks ago. Backpacked from Ashby Gap, Va. to Harpers Ferry WV. It was no walk in the park even though it was literally- a walk in the park (AT National Scenic Trail) This segment of the AT is infamous for although the peaks are not high, there are many of them, one after the other, spanning a total of 13.4 miles according to my map. Then another 16.6 to Harpers Ferry. All the while u have to keep track of your water supply. Much in the first 15, not so much in the second. Has to conserve water and “dry camp” the last night then a 4 mile hike across and down a mountain

Just got back from a 2900 mile blast around the UK.

If you ever feel the need, forget Ardnamurchan point, very very tough ride, possibly more suited to an off road bike, paved roads but not in the best condition. Three hours to cover 70 miles, 1st 2nd, 2nd 1st etc etc

Had a great time, would do it all again

Oh and the worst thing about the road out to Ardnamurchan point is there's only one, a little soul destroying when you know you need to turn round and do it all again.
