Who Has Manual Cam Chain Tensioner?

Looked in the thread on what people here make/sell and did not see that. Considering installing one since I have the stock one out now.

    Thanks!

Re: Who Has Manual Cam Chain Tensioner?

although i used APE on my GPz i never saw the need for an aftermarket tensioner on my ZRX

if it doesn't ramp up automatically i just give it a little push with a small screwdriver

but over the 175000km on my rex i've only had to do that a few times

Re: Who Has Manual Cam Chain Tensioner?

For regular street riding, a manual Can chain tensioner really does not help in any way - the stock tensioner is really reliable.

For heavy track day or dragracing use However, A manual cam chain tensioner is a must. Cheap insurance against major engine catastrophe. They are relatively easy to install you just need to get the feel for setting the tension initially. Once it is set you periodically need to double check it.

APE makes two versions, Compton makes a version, Kwick makes a version, and I believe a couple of the Japanese companies also do on Webike.

I have used APE on a couple of ZRX's, and couple of aftermarket ones on KLR650's, current ZRX and KLR have stock adjusters but have manuals in the box for both. I always seem to get some oil seeping out through the threads on the manual adjuster.

The stock tensioner works excellent, and IF it fails the only problem is a slight cam chain noise. There is no damage to the motor.

I sold them for years, I made them, but I’ve always said they are not necessary on a ZRX.
