    Hello from Sydney

    Hi,

After searching on and off for the last year I've just taken ownership of Australia's cheapest advertised zrx1100.

With 100,000kms on the clock and out of rego it was picked up fairly cheap but probably what it's worth. Bike runs great, starts and stops, tires good and came with a blue slip (mechanical inspection required for registration). The paint work is in excellent condition, possible respray, cant tell.

Always wanted a zrx due to it's good looks, rave reviews and promise of a comfortable ride. So far its living up to its reputation. My other bike is a '80 z650 I rebuilt. I love it but this is a whole new era in technology for me haha.

My plans are to tidy her up, performance mods and add some bling to be ready for a ride from Sydney to Philip Island in October this year for the Motogp.

    To do:
    Replace fluids
Check pads (front pads are rattling around?)
Check cam chain tensioner, bit of noise of left side when cold
    Starter chain tensioner mod
    4 degree advancer
Ivan's jet kit - is this the recommended kit for stock bike?
    Replace fork seals
    Replace front springs
    Blackwidow full system
    Put stock bars back on
Repaint or powder coat wheels black
    Fender eliminator
    Source grab rails
Lower cowl mod - is there a diy guide or cheap kit available?
    Zero gravity sports screen
    Remove spotlights..
    Iridium plugs - recommended?
Clean up radiator brackets or replace with ssr or els
    Replace radiator guard

Any other suggested jobs or mods?

    Welcome!

Can't tell about the over spray. The bike looks pretty good overall. Good place to start.

So you don't find out the hard way; The Rex likes to roll off the side stand, so always park it in gear.

The outer part of the wheels looks good polished. There are photos on here.

Welcome to the OA itís a great place full of info and I rekon you will be broke soon as the Zrx and this place tends to drain funds pretty quickly

    Re: Hello from Sydney

    Welcome to the Madness.

Your list of planned mods is reasonable, but I would also suggest the following :-
    • At 100,000 km, the rear shocks are stuffed. Replace them with Gazi Shocks (Brisbane).
    • Check the clutch fibre plate's thickness or just replace them.
    • Replace the front and rear brake caliper seals. The seals should be replaced every 4 years. Buy the Suzuki Busa kit as it is cheaper than Kawasaki seals. You may also need to replace the caliper pistons if they are pitted (probable)
    • Replace the clutch slave cylinder seal. You may also need to replace the slave cylinder piston if it is pitted (probable)
    • Replace the clutch & front brake master cylinder seals
    • Consider replacing the coolant hoses. After 18 years the original ones will be as hard as rocks.
    • Replace inner & outer fork bushings
    • Buy some of Greg Couch's engine sliders
    • Buy a Greg Couch's fork brace.
    • Scrap the fuel filter (not needed) and replace the fuel hose with an OEM hose
    • Scrap the hideous mirrors.
    • Relocated the horn to be under the front fairing
    • Try and determine the age of the battery. Three years or older, then replace the battery. As the bike was unregistered, it has been sitting in a garage for some time so a new, fresh battery might be a good idea either way.
    • Start putting some money aside for a new radiator. After 20 years, the olds ones are prone to leak. PWR (Brisbane) make a great aftermarket replacement.

Other than those few things, it looks like a nice bike, with some mods already performed by the previous owner.

So a few things are in the works. I will update here when a few care packages from the US arrive.

Wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a clutch mc and slave and front brake mc rebuild kit, preferably in Australia.

Thanks to sportsman and kwick for the quick postage. My local kawasaki parts dealer is a top bloke who's up for a chat and gives me a discounted price.

Today's activities include removing cooling system and exhaust and installing bw system.

I think I need to replace the coolant pipes and water pump.
    Can these be found aftermarket?

Couldn't remove the coolant pipes that are in the head. Is there any trick to these?

Considering the amount of crap/rust in the coolant tube, I'd say the radiator is on it's last legs.

    Re: Hello from Sydney

My radiator started leaking a few months ago after 17 years. I didn't want to spend the $ on OEM and was worried about the reliability of cheap Chinese options. I ended up getting one of Webike for about $400. I tried to find out where it was made, it seems like Europe bit can't really be sure. Only time will tell if it was a good decision or not.

Webike has some REALLY nice pipes and radiators - just depends how deep your pockets are.

As for keeping it running now - make sure (along with full coolant flush etc) you clean the filters - you'd be AMAZED at how dirty and full of crud they can be. I doubt mine were flowing at all based on how dirty they were!

    Which filters do you mean?

I acid soaked the pipes yesterday, removed alot but not all of it. Might do some more tonight.
Getting the two pipes, head cover, and pulsar cover powder coated this week.

Someone on the wtb thread told me the pipes are the same on the zx11? Looking into now.

Ordered a $90 radiator off Ebay, worth a shot maybe.

Also why are float bowl baskets so expensive..

    Anyone selling zx11 cams?

Very little wear on clutch from chain tensioner. Not bad for 100,000km.

The filters are directly off the bottom of either side carb assembly (on the 1200 anyway) - will try to find pic.
