In the background this week....Woodbury Fire in Arizona.

SWB, Lee Ann, owns 1/10 the property of www.ReevisMountain.org Reevis Mountain School of Self Reliance in the Superstition Mountains. My Sister also has a share.

She has been involved in one way or another since the first class Peter Bigfoot held 40 years ago. She volunteers up there all the time and cooks for classes, helps with the garden and orchard, tends to the livestock, and basically just loves going up. My Sister Fred, who invented the Internet, also has spent a lot of time there.

65,000 acres of the Superstition Mountains is on fire. Here's a link to see the video of Peter Bigfoot from yesterday, Peter's a hoot normally:

    https://www.azfamily.com/news/arizon...e822a311b.html

The firefighters came up earlier in the week and spend a couple nights there clearing out grasses and such and prepping as good as possible for the fire, and the fire went thru yesterday. They got all the livestock out and today we are waiting for this morning's hot spot photos from last night. The farm may be fine, or it may have completely burnt, or somewhere in between. They have evacuated the town of Roosevelt and Roosevelt Lake area yesterday.

If an order goes out a day late or has a mix-up, it's because this is running in our background, sorry. Lee has to be ready to go in as soon as word hits that it's OK.

Think good thoughts. Reevis Mountain School and the Superstitions are a special place for my wife and my sister, who invented the Internet.

They went in yesterday with Forest Service escorts for two hours.
Lost 10 trees in the orchard and a quarter mile of irrigation line and the grape vineyard.
The solar and buildings are fine other than dirty.
SWB is going up today with a trailer load of tubing and supplies and she cooked all night.
The Forest Service is supposed to help with the tubing today, so she is gone for as long as the Forest Service will let them stay.

...this is when Cam and I used to call the Poodles to come over....

It is so sad when a forested area burns. So much natural beauty destroyed. Many of my favorite local mountain roads have experienced this in the past five years. The western end of Angelus Crest Highway (SR-1). Highway 74 from Hemet to Idyllwild and Highway 243 from Banning to Idyllwild. Both roads suffered extensive damage this winter and 243 still hasn't re-opened.

I hope they get this one out soon.

    Scary stuff.

I lived up in the mountains SW of Denver for many years. In one summer we had 2 fires, the Buffalo Creek Fire (1996) not 20 miles south of my house near Bailey, and a small neighborhood fire when a construction worker threw a cigarette out a window. I watched the air show over Buffalo Creek for a few days from the deck of the house realizing if the wind direction changed we might have 20 minutes to grab and go. Sobering to think about, what do you grab? The cats, important papers, etc. I told my girlfriend her car stays as it's insured, my old Bronco wasn't, she wasn't too happy about that. I suppose she could have driven it out...

looks like they're using drones more and more: https://www.abc15.com/news/state/fir...-woodbury-fire
“One of the great things about the IMT and the Southwest region is they’ve been pretty pro UAS,” said Justin Baxter with UAS Fire Operations.

It's for good reason. The UAS has three main capabilities. They all center around keeping those on the ground out of harm’s way.

Whizzing through canyons and other cramped spaces while gliding low enough to capture high resolution footage.

“Before we hike a crew down there give them all the information we can before they leave the truck,” said Baxter.

Infrared cameras peer through smoke and sensors can detect hot spots and wind direction. If flames erupt near a crew, escape routes can be communicated immediately.
