    Yeah Randy, the diesel is a much better option at about $1.25/Lt for me for decent quality stuff - rather than the $1.80 I paid yesterday.

    Correct! Oil/fuel comes from either the Middle East, or from Singapore. BP has a local refinery, which on-sells to other companies.


    Here in Western Australia they have "price cycles". Cheapest day is Monday, the rest of the week is a rip-off.
    The local State Government publishes prices online on a daily basis, for various outlets, some a lot cheaper than others, but may be miles away.

    ULP = unleaded 91 octane (AUS)
    PULP - Premium unleaded 95 octane (AUS)
    Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.

    I was in Wisconsin last week and saw an article about some oil tankers being torpedoed and gas prices were going up. I got home Saturday, and gas prices were ..... down.

    Do not be confused Ed. Read my post #5 again. These United States of America are NOT beholded to OPEC or Middle East oil any more. Our oil comes mostly out of OUR ground. But the media won't let you know that. Like all the salient things in life: you must educate yourself.

    Related. For years and years and years and years and years we were told "it is the summer driving season. Get ready for gasoline prices to start going up." And they did. For the last couple of years, CERTAINLY INCLUDING THIS YEAR, gas prices have gone DOWN in the month of May. SO.....SURPRISE....we have been manipulated and lied to.

    Doubt it Sir. We have rid ourselves of the overbearing influence their oil plays on our daily lives and future. America is pretty much oil (and natural gas) independent. America now exports a LOT of crude oil to foreign customers. And with the recent documented finds of recoverable oil in west Texas and New Mexico America has DOUBLED its reserves of crude oil. Doubled. We be drowning in crude oil.

    You would think that after some 40 years of bitching about OPEC the Commercial News Sources would be dancing a jig. But when you pause to consider it....you too will realize that NO ONE talks about OPEC anymore here in America.
    A female candidate for VP was once thoroughly derided for saying "Drill, baby, drill!" Turns out, she was spot on. We have drilled our way out of our reliance on OPEC oil. Oil, however, is a global commodity so we won't be getting a break on the price of gas due to the availability of oil in the US as it is sold for the global price per barrel--not some special price because it came out of American soil. We ain't nationalized our oil and natural gas production yet! However, our production does mean that OPEC's decision to cut production does not have the impact on global prices it once did as there is a ready supply of oil on the market thanks to "Drill, baby, drill."

    Australia, your gas prices, like California's, may be impacted by political decisions that drive up the price. We have a "cap and trade" tax added to our gas on top of the usual federal and state sales taxes.

    And, here in CA, we have "summer" and "winter" blends to deal with serious air pollution issues. THAT I don't mind paying for though I think the oil companies take advantage of us during the switch over twice a year as prices spike.

    After hitting the lower $4 range recently for 91 octane (10% ethanol), prices have begun to drop in the I.E., where I live, into the $3.80-3.90 range. Costco is even cheaper. I go there to fill up the cars.

    over a dollar of that $4.25 a gallon is voted in road taxes (for repair/maintenance/highway improvements.) All invisible to me except the bill on the pump....

    I pay close to $3/gallon for 89 octane which is one step up from the bottom of 87. I get 5 cents off a gallon at Sunoco and earn points on my ExxonMobile card for free gas.

    Im paying $5.50/gallon for diesel in Italy right now (rented a diesel Jeep Cherokee). Regular unleaded gas is about ten cents more per liter, which translates to about $5.87 or more. Makes sense that there are so many motorcycles rolling around...

    I dream of $5 US a gallon.
    My last fill in Norfolk UK was 1.35 litre = 6.05 Gallon = $7 Gallon. We have it so good here, it matches the crappy weather.

    We usually fill up @ Costco whenever possible. There's always a line there. But, it moves pretty smoothly and the place is kept clean as a shiny new whistle.

    No need to worry about credit card skimmers either. The attendants walk around observing and check on things all the time.

    Costco usually has the cheapest prices on fuel.
    Speed kills..........but only the dumb and the inexperienced!
