So I left the key on. Battery dead. I plugged in the Shorai charger and both lights flash because the battery is so dead. How long till it returns to "normal"? or will it not charge? We have plug in chargers at work we put on buses. They will not charge if the battery is clear dead because it can't sense voltage. same?

Don't know about that kind of battery, but I have hooked up another battery in parallel to get the charger to get going. Those take a special charger, don't they?

yes to both. on a bus I put some in with a regular charger then the automatic one will take off.

Use full size car charger. Set up a clock next to it. Video the whole thing. Ge a data point for: from full dead to full fire.

Use a small Battery Tender to get it going, worked with 2 different Shorai batteries for me. The Shorai charger is a finicky little.... I gave mine away.

I drained my Shorai battery down to 2.5V, but it came back fully. With the Shorai Battery Charger, both lights will flash if the battery is fully discharged. However, it will recover.

Plug in the Shorai Charger, and both lights will flash. Select CHARGE and just leave it flashing for a couple of hours. Then turn off & unplug the charger. Then reconnect the charger but select STORE. It will eventually re-charge fully, probably over night.

I have always used a battery tender on mine with no issues.

Seriously though once my standard battery went all the way dead, it took > half a day to charge with my Schumacher MC battery charger. It was so dead it wouldn’t even register on the charger for a few hours

Yes, but if you LEAVE it on a Tender, it'll always be low and it will lessen it's life.

If you are gonna spend $150+ on a battree one should consider the official charger and these ^^^ simple instructions. Which I believe are enshrined in the written destructions that come with said charger.

And one of the Battery Trackers from RePete. I always know the state of my battery and charging system via bluetooth. I know if a starting issue is battery related as it tells me real time cranking voltage. The damn thing will even send me a notice if I need to hook it up to a charger.

Shorai's store mode leaves the battery at 80% charge...

My Battery Tender charges to 14.5 volts before turning green. At that point it's in monitor mode and will charge back up to 14.5 volts again if the voltage drops below a certain as yet undetermined value.

Last night I plugged on the charger. 9.77, 9.78 . Real slow. This am, 14.2. Takes time. The bike came with a charger so I have two now. Anyone need one? this bike would not let the starter engage @ 10. volts.

My battery tender charges it to 13.4 volts . last battery i got from you lasted 4 years. i have a volt meter gage built into my ignition box. works fine for me. its total loss ignition with no charging system.

Same here. Premium Yuasa AGM's have never given me any grief.

And my ZRX has the original battery from 2008 and it's still going strong.

My Shorai sat unused for 1/2 a year and worked flawlessly without ever touching a charger. They're very good batteries. I've had no issues and use their specific charger just for fun.

I am coming up (September) on 8 years on my two generation 1 Shorais that I got through KWICK. They just a rocking-and-a-rollin.
