So..... they found the bike and his gear.... Did he piss someone off and they handled him?..... did he fall into the river? Was he attacked by a mountain lion? Did he say "fVck the lemons...", and bail?
This is interesting... Hopefully he's ok.

Suspicious. Maybe it got icy and he fell in the river. Cold snow melt. Hypothermia and he was "wiped" anyway. Bad combination.

I would ride in that area often. That area is nothing but small towns and wilderness. I don't believe that there are icy roads this time of year at any altitude in the area. However, with the huge snowpack this year and the sudden warming the rivers are flowing fast. If he slipped, or was wading in and ventured into the current he could have easily been swept away.

Deliverance anyone?
Let's hope he is found safe.

During the 2010 floods here in the Nashville area, we had a fatality in the Harpeth river when it was in flood stage. When it came down, we searched for several days unsuccessfully. We finally had to run several miles of the river with a cadaver dog. We eventually found him encased in the bank where it had reformed after washing away, (rerouting the river slightly).
All that to say, it may take some time to find his remains....![]()
This guy doesn’t want to be found. Bike, wallet, keys, laptop, backpack all found near the bike.
He didn’t fall in the river. He’s disappeared in purpose. Dig deeper, and I bet they find something he’s running from.

I do not go into bodies of water carrying any of those items. Do I want any my phone, wallet, laptop to get wet. If the bike was close to the stream, why not leave it with the bike.
Why voluntarily get into a cold, raging mountain stream?

We have no idea the stream was raging where he may have gone in. The stream may not have looked like it was raging where he went in. Heck, why do people get in water above a waterfall ? The fact is, we have no idea what happened to him. Until that is found out, there is no sense in speculating why it happened.
Speculation absent fact is what we do best around here.

Ain't that the truth. This one is perfect too since we know nothing about his background that would cause him to want to disappear as well. If I had to place a bet, I 'd go with what I have personally seen in the past, however and say he slipped and fell into the water, but we will not know until more information comes out. If he fell in the water, they will eventually find him.

This is how the Potomac River is just above Washington, D.C. Looks very calm but one wrong step and you're sucked- in by the undercurrent plus there are a lot of underwater carve- outs made over the millenia that trap people with the force of the water

Authorities have called off the search for automotive journalist Davey G. Johnson. The 43-year-old contributor to Car and Driver, Jalopnik, and Motorcyclist went missing on an overnight motorcycle ride from Mammoth, California to his home in Sacramento.
According to former Motor1.com contributor Abigail Bassett, the unofficial liaison between Johnson's hundreds of friends and family and the authorities, his disappearance is being treated as an accidental drowning. Bassett said in the last update to a Facebook thread that has been shared over 1,000 times that “detectives believe that Davey went into the river of his own accord, and there is no evidence of foul play.”

Glad they found him. Hope when he is positively identified it can bring closure.
RIP.

Good that this closure may be upon the family and friends. But to never know the how or why will be an eternal torture.

For a short time, I was thinking about Rob, a.k.a. Rubba. What a damned shame getting murdered like that. Did anyone ever hear about some closure on his case?
Here's a story that fills in a couple more details.
