AV80R’s 1974 BMW 2002tii

Well, here’s my next project that is on a truck and due to arrive around Thursday.

More details to follow. This is an interesting situation and I think you guys will enjoy the build and the reason behind it.

The 2002tii is a cult classic and having an original unmolested example in the oh so desirable Fjord Blue is really exciting.

1974 was the last year for the 2002tii. The diving board bumpers will match the ones on the Pinto nicely.

The first BMW I ever rode in was a 78 or 79, in 1979. I was very surprised at how fast it was compared to my slightly built 72 Monte Carlo. Best I can remember it looks just like your 2002tii

Congrats on the new car.

Back in the early 70s, I went to visit my bother who was stationed in Frankfurt and we went to the races in Hockenheim. A long track with an "infield" that has spectator stands and then the cars head out into the countryside (but it was all track, not country roads).

The leaders were 500HP Corvettes and the 2002 tiis. The Vettes would blow out the Beemers in the countryside and have a big lead coming into the twisty grandstands. By the time they headed back out to the country, the Beemers were out in front. All the US military guys were cheering for the Vettes and the locals for the BMWs.

I don't know how the parts situation for these babies is in the US but if you should ever need help in sourcing parts, I can do my best over here in its motherland.

I used to own a 1972 2002Tii, but sold it in 1992...
I still regret that, but you know, can't keep everything.
It was an early one in Zitronengelb, with the original engine still fitted, you know, the one which still had the intake manifold tubes in plastic.
The later changed them to aluminium ones.
Hope your brother has a safe tour of duty!

A friend in High School got one from his dad as a 16th birthday present, I was impressed, nowhere as quick in the quarter as my 13:1 compression 327 in my 57 Chevy with 488 rear gear but then again that car was all done at the end of the quarter and helpless if the road turned and you were going any speed at all.

Driving that car really opened my eyes to fast small light good handling cars

And Oh How Weird. For the last two months, during our various trips around town or to distant cities I've been telling Amy "Oh my gawd, is that a two thousand two? A Beemer two thousand two??? Wooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww. Those things are one of my absolute favorites from the 1970's." She looks at me cross eyed.

Again, count me as subscribed.

And seeing the car on top of and then rolling off the car hauler..........for it's pending inspection and restoration like work......made me think of this. One of these coming up soon too for you/us Arash??
