    Re: Hypersport Touring

I hated the Hayabusa for a long time. It's been around longer than all Hyper bikes. It caught the rap of a brother bike getting stupidly done with spikes /300 tires
Being a huge ZX11D fan, and loving the ZX12 you would think the ZX14, AND 14R Would be my next step.
Having ridden all versions of the ZX I just felt the 14 feel short, and was reaching near Ducati level of service.

Started reading hundreds of articles, tests, and much more for over a year. I'm a pretty good wrench, but felt the ZX 14 was to time consuming of a bike ( valve train)
To purchase. Reports all sided as the Gen 2 Hayabusa being the better handler of the two.
That was what I wanted. Out of the box the ZX14R
has better brakes, and 27 more Hp and weighs 4 pounds more than a Hayabusa. Today a out of the Box 14R has 13 more hp, but weighs 89 pounds more than my Hayabusa.

The Hayabusa is much cooler riding in the heat than any ZX based machine. The 11,12,and 14 all cooked me here in south Texas. The bird does not. It's better than my FJR was also.

There are two members on Hayabusa.org who own both gen 2 Hayabusa's and ZX14'S at the same time.
They have said the bird is a better mountain rider while
ZX was a better city machine.

It no longer matters how fast I once was .

    Re: Hypersport Touring

I own an 09 Hayabusa with 59000 miles on it all by me. Been on many long trips with soft saddlebags and a top bag. Rain or shine, it's a great bike. After a while it does become a little uncomfortable but I can suffer through it. Any bike gets uncomfortable even the big touring bikes if you stay on them long enough.

Have not had a single mechanical issue that I couldn't fix in a few minutes. Replaced the fuel filter twice, did the valves and needed to fix an issue with the clutch basket bolts backing out serviced the front forks, tire swaps and swapped out the chain and sprockets. That's it!

I also own a ZRX and love it for many other reasons. Never taken it on a long trip, but I'm sure it would be comfy also.

I would love to own a ZX-14 and a Connie also. Maybe when I hit 60, a connie like bike is in my future.

    Re: Hypersport Touring

I have since done a significant amount of research since I started this thread. For some reason I thought Iíd be alone in the idea that these bikes would be good sport tourers.

For the longest time I hated the Busa as well, just because the only place I had ever seen them was being ridden by hood rats at bike night.

Iím now in the market for a clean, all original, low mileage second gen Hayabusa. Preferably a dark blue 2008 model but itís hard to be picky when buying used. I have become heavily invested in Hayabusa forums and will model my build after c10ís.

I donít really intend to sell the ZRX but I guess weíll just see how much seat time it gets after I get a busa set up. The ZRX probably makes a better general purpose knock-around bike so itíll probably get ridden around town.

Thanks for all the pics and info, everyone.
