    AV80R in TN - July 1-15 2019

Iíll be in Lebanon, TN from July 1-15 attending an airframe & powerplant mechanicís course at Baker School of Aeronautics.

    https://www.bakersschool.com/ap

Sunday July 7th and 14th are my only two free days. Every other day Iím either in class or with the examiner.

I know Tacmedic and Perko are close...any other members want to meet up?

Iíve never been to Nashville. What are your must see recommendations to a newb without a lot of time?

If all goes well, Iíll be coming home a licensed mechanic after wrenching on planes for more than 30 years under my stepdadís license.

I have 3 written tests, an oral, and practical exam to get done in that 2 week period. Wish me luck.

Holy Wandering West Coast Wascals Batman.

I'll figure something out for one of those dates Arash. Lebanon is just east of downtown Nashville about 20 miles.

Let me check the schedule. Maybe Stormy Daniels is dancing at Deja Vu in downtown one of those dates.

You have to attend the hoedown in Watertown. It's a real eye opener. lol. Not sure of the dates or if they even still do it. I used to ride dirt bikes and ATVs at the Cedars of Lebanon state park and bow hunt at the Gallatin Steam Plant near there. It's a very cool place. Good luck on your test...like you need it.

    Re: AV80R in TN - July 1-15 2019

Oh yeah, you never have to do the math in your head for the written exams.

And you can bring reference material for the practical exam.

This certification allows you to work on everything from a Piper Cub to a Boeing 747, so thereís no way to know it all...you just have to prove you know how and where to find the data you need to do the job.

Three written tests, 70% required to pass.

    - General
    - Airframe
    - Powerplant

And then you spend a day with an FAA examiner in his shop doing whatever he wants and answering his questions.

The experience I have definitely helps, but Iím going to be at the mercy of that experienced examiner.

Iíve seen worse than me get the license so I have that going for me

Good luck on becoming a licensed A+P, it will definitely help you a bunch, don't stop there, try to get your IA in 3 years.

I made a lot money over the years for having IA cert.
I actually did many weekend annuals on my early years to make needed cash !! I've done some on heavy jets that were privately owned, $$$ !!

When I did my practical, It took 2 days, basically did a full annual on 172, paid the examiner and he got paid for my work,

I went to Spartan in Tulsa, FAA next door, 5 of us crammed for a week at school, all 3 test passed over 90%. Good Times

Itís weird to me that interstate travel is possible for you guys. It takes a whole day to get out of CA so a road trip to any other state is a big deal.

Arash goes to Tennessee. Nails all the test questions. Does an annual on a DC-3 while spotting and fixing many other squawks so impressing the IA he's speechless and has no choice but to bless Arash with his A&P and a gushing glowing letter of recommendation!

    Re: AV80R in TN - July 1-15 2019

Itís 100% official now, I have my 8610-2 forms signed by the FAA and I have the all clear to go attempt the tests at the Baker school.

I went to my local FAA Flight Safety District Office this morning and they reviewed my paperwork, logs, and interviewed me. I didnít even have to try and within minutes he was giving me pointers on what to expect at the Baker school. The FAA inspector I met with has only been at this CA office for 18 months but spent 25 years at the local office in TN next to the Baker school. What are the chances of that?! Itíll be fun to see if any of the examiners who will see his signature on my paperwork recognize him.

He came to CA to bump up his salary right before he retires this September. He plans on going right back to TN once he says goodbye tension, hello pension. He gets a $37k bump in salary for the move from TN to CA, and his retirement goes up $22k annually and he gets to retire 3 years sooner too. Heís earned it

So all thatís left for me to do is everything. Time to bust my butt in TN and see if I can come home with a new rating.
