    77 Z400 tacho drive

    Hi all,
Just wondering if I could get your opinion on the source of the leak.

I bought the bike not running. Silly.

Anyhow, I had previously scrubbed this a bit, but I am wanting to fix the leak.

Do you think itís coming from the tacho drive or elsewhere? If so, do I need to take the cam cover off to get the drive out given that it is splined in.

I canít find anything on it in my simple manual about disassembly. I am aware that an o-ring and other seal are needed and have found them on EBay.

Do I need to take the cam cover off or just unscrew and replace seal / o-ring?

Also, I notice that the crash bars push the cable up slightly and am wondering if that may have contributed to the failure of the seals?
    Thank you,
    Dean.

I'm not a great mechanic (someone, come weld my tool box shut!)

but if it was me: I'd clean everything well, replace the O ring and put the cable back avoiding the kink. And go from there...

Yep thanks Iíll do that. I am no mechanic either. Just wondering if I need to take the cam cover off or do I rotate the engine whilst extracting the tacho drive.

    Hi,
I have had a crack at cleaning the front of the engine but the oil stains are quite stubborn.

I am wondering if anyone has used oven cleaner or any other type of cleaner to get the oil off.

    Thanks, Dean.
