    Twin Cessna flight

My 1965 all aluminum 500+ HP machine performed flawlessly Thursday. Went to a training conf almost 1000 miles from home. Iíll never be able to buy a Cobra, but N302SK is a whole bunch cheaper, a little Faster, and certainly hauls more stuff!

Had ATC re routes south of Houston. Then they cleared me direct to Lake Charles. Nope. Canít do that. You can see the line they initially cleared me into, on the right of the flight track. I just said no.

It was a solid Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) day. Bad weather all around, instrument approaches at the destinations. I was stuck on the ground in De Quincy Louisiana for a couple hours. Then a relatively un eventful leg to Memphis for fuel, and waiting for weather to move further East.

Nice ground speed on the final leg. Almost 210 Knots, which is about 240 MPH across the ground. This was at a normal 60% power cruise and a 20 knot tail wind at 11,000 feet. No autopilot makes it a long day in the weather.

I've always loved those occasions (it's been many for me) where I've been able to fly private. It is truly one of the tastiest treats life on this planet has to offer.

Thanks for the kewl "ride report" Dan.

Uneventful flight home. No weather to dodge. But had headwinds. Best was 180 knots ground speed. Around 210mph.

    Re: Twin Cessna flight

It is an app for my EFB (electronic flight bag). I use FlyQ. I like it much better than foreflight.

The App you are seeing is pretty cool. You connect to ADSB, then align the compass out the front window. You can hold up the iPad and it shows you airports, traffic, airspace etc. itís Free with FlyQ. I bought a lifetime CFI subscription. Never have to buy a VFR or IFR chart again. It also has synthetic vision, which could be used to fly to safety in a total electric and vacuum failure. Rare to happen, of course. But still pretty slick. Plus I have a mini app on my phone. Access to and can

Next time I fly, Iíll try to get some additional cool features to show up.

    Re: Twin Cessna flight

I just think about the money I saved by not buying a 100k+ airplane. The 310 costs less than a new pickup truck!

The fuel to TN and back was less than 2 round trip tickets and extra fees. I found 3.30 per gallon in the middle of no where Louisiana. Overall average price was about 4 dollars a gallon.

Dog boarding for the week cost about the same as a fill up.

My insurance business partner just called and wanted to discuss a Cessna 206 with A/C. Around 400k! His Grumman Tiger is too hot in the summer for short trips.

    Itís all relative.

Piston twins like the 310 are dirt cheap right now. There just isnít a lot of qualified pilots who are in the market to buy them.

It sat outside for 3 days of heavy rain. It has never looked so good. Paint needs some attention, but it looks good from 10 feet the white has really sun faded.

It will not be receiving a $20,000 paint job. Ever.
