So this had been something I've been planing to do for a while now..,however motorcycle build threads etc have been taking precedence..
Anyway I finally got the chance to get around to it..
I had noticed Arash had some nice Titanium Fairing screws and Rad bracket~Shroud screws to match..

(Not sure of their origin.....Greg Couch.? ...Paul Kondraki..?? )
Either way I liked them and decided to make some "similar" for myself...
As you can see the stock screws are a little lame ?

As I'm building this 2001 I was gonna make them in Aluminium for this bike and Titanium for my 2005..
Attachment 310050
However I changed my mind and decided to dive right in and do them in Titanium right off the bat..(I would also have to make little "Top hat" cups for the rad bracket ones...and a special "Tool" to fit them...)
These items would be in Brass.....
Attachment 310051
I have used many types of "lubricant" in the past for machining Titanium ...including Nix stix ..etc...however This Magnetic Drill spray lubricant I recently bought is the best by far..
Attachment 310052
In addition as there would be some drilling required I also bought a set of "Cobalt" bits...and they indeed were the right choice..

Attachment 310054
Ok...,enough talk.,lets get these things machined..

(Lubricant spray liberally applied....and ensure your lathe cutting tools are sharp !)

Although both the rad bracket/shroud screws and Fairing screws have M6 x 1.0 threads. They differ in length and the Fairing screws have a 10mm 'shoulder'..
Rad bracket screws

Fairing screws..
Attachment 310058
And although both types heads are 20mm diameter ....the Fairing screws heads are "shallower"....(that is lubricant on the shanks of the Titanium screws below..and not badly machined..

)

Ok so the 'blanks' have all been machined

Work continues as shown..

At this point I began to make their fitting "tool"...(note the concave bottom face..
Attachment 310072
Attachment 310065
Although I initially made provision for nine spiggots..I finally settled on just three..
Attachment 310066
And I "broached" the upper face to accept a 5.5mm hex using my own custom made "broaches"..
I also Knurled the outer edge for operating purposes..
Attachment 310070
Attachment 310071
Also machined four replacement "Top hat" cups for the Rad screws...oh and although the stock screws have a 'plain' 6mm shank...I designed my Titanium with a stepped 7mm shank.,and as such the Brass top hat cups had to be machined accordingly to match..
Attachment 310067
Attachment 310068
Ok so here are all the parts...complete..

Note the 7mm stepped shank of my Titanium rad screws versus 6mm plain shank of stock mentioned earlier..

I decided to try these out on my 2005 ZRX..(although I will have to make another set for that bike...)

The stock shrouds on this bike will be replaced with Carbon Fibre replacements Peter custom made for me....although I also have a lovely set of custom brackets made for me by Rob (Kustom) and I will have to make a choice decision on thiz for my 05..
I am leaning toward the "Brackets" for my 01...and I will fit them with these screws over on that thread..
Attachment 310097
Over to that thread for an update on that..
