Anyone know the zinc content of the Castrol MC oils? Cannot find the info on their website or on their PDS.

Same as all the rest...there is an upper limit they cannot exceed if they want to meet API standards.

Red Line does their own thing.

    Re: Castrol Full Synthetic Deal

Emailed Castrol, they said they donít share info about additives. I told them to keep their oil if they are concerned with folks knowing what they put in it. Wonít run their products in anything I own now based on just their canned response alone.

KWICK is right about Redline, they do their own thing, and they also proudly share their specs and will stand by their products as being the best.

    Re: Castrol Full Synthetic Deal

Well I did some research and the MA-2 spec is for bikes 2006+(??) and it's a better suited for the new hi tech clutches(less slip) and catalitic converter safe, is really designed for emissions, energy conserving economy, etc.

We will have to adapt to these new oil formulations, as regulations/emissions make old oils obsolete.

It will be ok for the ZRX IMO, but I will always use 20W50 in the ZRX as is old tech engine.

Sorry just started a oil thread !!!

    Re: Castrol Full Synthetic Deal

Well not wanting to start an "Oil Thread", but we wash rinse and repeat a lot of othet subjects :brick:

Most of you know why we should use motorcycle spec. oil :bhorse

IAC based on a lot of reading, etc. The use of Zinc alkyl dithiophosphate is limited to aprox. 800 PPM on the new MA-2 spec oils, because the cathalitic converters on newer bikes. The good old spec MA, SG oils had aprox. 1000+ PPM, Redline 2000+ PPM !!

But as technology evolves(emissions requirements), so do lubricants and the oils we should be using on our bikes may no longer exists !!
May have to use special racing oils or zinc additives at boutique prices !!

According to the Castrol Power 1 MSDS there's a percentage of Zinc in their oil, 1-5 % ??

Only 2 qts left at my store

Redline is owned by Conoco. Some people on well known oil forum say by comparing mds info they're using the Phillips 66 oil in the non racing Redline product lines.

Red Line is bottled by Phillips, all my Red Line correspondence backs this up.

Well it looks like Autozone is determined to get rid of Castrol oils , oil even lower $2 a qt.
got a few more for scooters, already have 7, 20W50 for ZRX, got total of 11 qts. at different prices.(6,4,2)

My average cost with tax $4.09 qt.

I picked up 22 quarts today at $2.00 per. A mix of 10/40 and 20/50.
I will wipe out the rest of the stores in my area tomorrow.

    Re: Castrol Full Synthetic Deal

I studied and analyzed aircraft hydraulics. I was a master auto tech and went to all of Ford schools. Now I've been in the motorcycle industry for 13 years. You take the top dozen or so motorcycle oils and you'll find little difference in your engine, period. Just keep it clean as possible.
In synthetics I like esters. My opinion and choice. But like I said just keep it clean a possible and you will be served well.
And that's a darn fine deal for Castrol!

    You know it .
I bought a total of 50 quarts at $2, add that on top of the three gallons I already had (but forgot about) of my Rotella mix and I won't have to pick up any more oil for a while.

Trust me there's none left in Boston. My brother got some as well.
There is one store just outside of town that claims 19 bottles but I have enough.

I haven't used synthetic yet but I average less than 2k miles annually anyway so it would be sitting in crankcase for long time I used to use Valvolene 4- stroke conventional MC- specific oil but then went to Maxima 20w50. Still conventional. I don't think I put enough miles on the bike to justify using it
