    Re: AV80Rís 1980 Ford Pinto

The distributor was curved by the factory for emissions, fuel economy, smooth idle and easy starting. There may be room for improvement, an experienced distributor guy will know that. I had good luck advancing the timing as others have suggested. Went too far once, while the engine didn't ping the starter wasn't so happy....

Haynes manuals are fun to read. Youíd be surprised what you can learn from reading about things you donít understand!

I quit reading manuals. I bought an ATC 200X once. Buddy(hand wringer) asked if I ever read the manual. No. so I started to. It can to a part that said: Never accelerate the vehicle at such a rate to cause the front wheel to rise. Why did I buy this thing? threw the book out.

Itís an aviation thing that has been ingrained into me long ago.

There is data for everything. How to operate them. How to maintain them. How to repair them.

Itís not what you ďknow you donít knowĒ that gets you. Itís what you ďdonít know that you donít knowĒ that hits you like a freight train out of the blue.

A consequence of combating this by learning and reading is that you will undoubtedly waste time on learning some useless information, but the human mind has a wonderful adaptation to address this...a bad memory. The useless info youíve learned is more apt to be forgotten over time.

Coincidently, that same mechanism is the key to a happy life. Being able to forget the bad and keep the good.

I used to browse illustrated parts catalogs as a kid. The exploded views were fun to scrutinize and try to visualize how everything works without turning a single wrench.

I have a formidable collection of IPCs that is 35 years in the making and worth thousands of dollars. I canít part with any of them though!

That section of the shop manual could only have been written in the 1970s. When else could you have had service techies wearing a tie or with hair long enough to get caught in the fan while checking the timing?
Methinks that was written for two generations of mechanics that are mostly extinct.

The SHO motor HAS THE SAME MOUNTING HOLES AS A MAZDA 626 TURBO.

WHICH HAS THE SAME PATTERN AS A B2000

    WHICH IS REAR WHEEL DRIVE

WHICH WILL BOLT TO THE SHO MOTOR
