    Re: AV80Rís 1980 Ford Pinto

Bought a new cap and rotor today for $20

    The distributor is buried

Two flat head screws secured the cap on and I was able to remove them, but canít get it out. The alternator has to come out.

    Thatís better

The rotor and cap were all roached out. Iíd bet theyíre original since new.

Got the new rotor and cap in and sure enough it runs smoother.

That's the standard starting procedure for virtually every car with a carb/choke in the 60s/70s. Cold, set the choke first with pedal. Warm, no choke, just a little throttle to feed some fuel.

    Re: AV80Rís 1980 Ford Pinto

The reason they want you to take your foot off the gas pedal, is the choke system uses a spring loaded fast idle cam that snaps into place when you push the pedal down fully. It is held in position by the throttle being closed when you let it up. As soon as you touch the gas, it moves to a lower part of the fast idle cam. Some add spring tension to to choke blade with the fast idle cam, so holding your foot on the gas defeats these things.

I had a 75 Nova once that was a bugger to start cold. There were instructions on the sun visor. What do I need that crap for? Oh. I did it the same way yours said and it started right up.

body prolly. A AMC v8 used a Torque flite trans, a Ford 2 bbl, and a delco distributor with a window. Ford starter relay. Some AMC stuff is kept alive through Jeep guys

No wheelie bars, just a reinforced rear bumper. No individual rear wheel brakes like the wheel stander cars either. Just a big set of balls. He has flipped it more than a few times. Plenty of Youtube vids of him out there.

$155 of door seals showed up today.

The original ones in there now are totally compressed and completely gone. The doors rattle around badly as you drive and you can actually see daylight through them when the door is closed.
