That's very cool Arash, not for me but very cool

Are you going to go all AV80R on it and Ti it up? Or just a "basic" BGWells clean up?

    Thanks Dirk.

The fuselage will be totally redone to match the brand new wings and then we’ll decide if we’re gonna sell it or put it to work.

Modifications on certified aircraft are virtually impossible without spending a ton of money on paperwork with the government, so this one will be pretty much in the same configuration as when it was brand new in 1999.

    Impressive!

So triton is not an FAA representative, correct?

Keep cranking em out. The industry needs good folks who are young enough to carry GA forward into the future.

I always dreamed of going to a program like that for fun. We had one at KSJC through San Jose State Univ but I was already burned out of building aircraft by the time I graduated high school and I avoided all things aviation for my career.

HMMMMM If somebody has old, no good for full scale aviation spruce wood spars, I would be interested in repurposing them back into aviation as "new" wood for model aviation and let them live a new life.

Right? 15 feet of high quality spruce shouldn’t go to waste.

Bill would recoil at the sight of some of the spliced wood spars that were done at the factory on Cubs and Champs.

    Flying wires and cables removed.

    Prop removed

    Front seat and door off.

    Upper and lower cowling off.

    Rudder removed

Pins for the elevator hinge took a little coercing but they came out without too much trouble.

Now the fun part begins...the horizontal. It’s just steel tube that slides on to another that nests inside. Why they don’t use anti seize on these when they build them at the factory, I’ll never know.

The last ones I did took a few days to get off.

triton can rest easy now, knowing that there are a couple elderly white guys in charge of the whole operation

I carefully use a heat gun, but until you’ve seen how fast a fabric aircraft goes up in flames, you’ll never believe how fast it happens.

I saw a J3 burn up within minutes from a halogen bulb exploding and setting the elevator on fire. It burned the entire airframe up and the firewall worked in reverse, protecting the engine.

It’s going to take a few days of soaking it with penetrant to get them off. There’s no shortcut.

I helped a friend take his off a Scout a month ago and it took 3 days.

No downside, the entire thing will be recovered.

We removed it from the area of the joined tubing so we can work penetrant in easier and apply some heat and cold alternating so that we can help things let go.

On the rest of the fuselage, you carefully take all the covering off in the largest sheets possible and save them for reference when you are putting the new stuff on and want to see how all the tapes and such were laid on by the factory.

AV80R dearly thanks triton and never turns down an open door to someone offering advice or help PM inbound...I’m always learning in this hobby whether it’s related to flying these things or wrenching on them.

This one is easy compared to the basket cases we’ve saved in the past. This 7ECA is the 53rd (we think? Tried counting them all and we have missed a couple) airframe in 32 years for us. So many planes, so little time.

Yes, you sit in the back and the gauges are all way up front. One gauge is even out side the cabin out in front of the windscreen!

You don’t need a single gauge to fly a J-3 Cub. When a front passenger is seated, you can’t see anything anyways.

You listen to the whistle of the air for airspeed and your butt is the ball for turn coordination. Your eyeballs out the windows suffice for altitude.

The only two gauges I’m ever interested in are the oil pressure and temperature on the far right.
