Shrinking the fabric on the horizontals in stages. We did it with more steps than they call for. Started at 250F, then 300, then 325, 350...

The Stewart Systems process has been a dream. One nifty thing is this eraser which can remove the blue colored glue off the fabric where needed.

Then it's time for Eko Fill, it will take a few coats to fill the weave of the fabric and tapes. The Ceconite 102 medium fabric has a coarser weave than the Superflight fabric, but it's slightly stronger too.

Next we started clamping the fuselage envelope in place for preparation to rough trim it where needed.

And just a random shot of some tools for the fabric work.

Got a 337 approved by the friendly neighborhood FSDO for Rainbow Ron's baggage door which is hinged from the front. The ACA baggage door is hinged from the top.

Got the fuselage fabric stuck on with EkoBond and roughly trimmed up.

Not too bad of a result without any heat shrinking. This Stewart Systems process is just wonderful to work with.

    Trimming the bottom overlap

Shrunk it down to 250F, stuck down the bottom edge overlap with EkoBond and installed reinforcing tape and pop rivets on the vertical stab.

Worked up to the final shrink with the iron at 350F.

More reinforcing tape and pop rivets where they belong.

Addressed some of the stuff poking out for the horizontal stab, flying wires, and the handle with fabric reinforcement patches as required.

Anyway, it's moving right along and is coming out pretty good but still lots left to do.

I've used Polyfiber in the past and Stewart Sysyems is way easier to use in comparison with no flammable solvents and how flexible the EkoBond is in regards to applying and/or repositioning fabric.

Not sure I'd enjoy removing the covering from Stewart Systems off an airframe...

Ken, that's correct. You slap the glue on and let it dry. Then you apply the fabric and can peel it up as needed to readjust. Once you like where it's at, a hot iron increases the bond.

After you use the iron, you can still take it apart, but it's harder to do so.

More detail work sealing up some holes and tying up other loose ends on the fuselage.

This area at the bottom front will be stitched in place.

The EkoFill is starting to look good after a couple coats.

With yellow wings, we’re going to have a Dawn Grey fuselage and look to some military paint schemes from the 1930’s for inspiration. Don’t know what it will look like, as we’re still looking through all the images if you google “1930’s military aircraft”.

I see all kinds of possibilities on the net of the "I have wings, I have a fuselage, I have tail feathers" paint jobs.

I'm sure you two will pick something cool. Photoshop some colors to look at? Paint some little models?

Wish us luck! We haven’t ever ended up with ugly airplane after painting...but there’s always a first time for a dud.

But you’re right, the crazier you get the less it appeals. The market for taildraggers is already so small, that every little bit counts.
