    1975/77/80 KZ1000 turbo drag/street project

So my 1980 chassis is going off to powder coat in a few days. The engine is 1977 with a 75 Z1 crank that has been lightened balanced and welded. The head has stainless over sized valves, 1075 low comp pistons and an MRE lock up. Needs a new head gasket and a valve adjustment and it should be good. The turbo kit is a NICE Mr turbo kit draw through type with a shorty S&S carb. Should make any where from 200 to 235 HP at 10 to 15 pounds of boost.
I will be posting progress step by step. It has 77 A model furniture tank side covers etc. Has kosman wheels and a primary collet drive along with grimeca brakes should look good when she is done and hopefully scare the shit out of me.

Looking forward to the build. (I should probably start a thread of my own Kz build here at some point.)

Anyways, are you planning on bracing the frame at all? And please get the correct style of cam end plugs. :P

Yes yes I know. I'm going to get a set of billet ones they can be a pain to remove but they should only come off every 10k or more. I do not know about bracing the frame I have never done it. Not even sure where I would put braces to be honest.

Google “Kosman frame bracing kit”. They want $250 for the kit but you can make your own fairly easily.

    Here’s the instructions sheet.

Damn I should probably do that well we will see. Working on the gauge's tonight. I got them split so I could clean the glass and to also sand the rusty paint off of them. I will be sanding them down to bare metal then clear goat them. Then buy all new gauge plastic and mount for about 50 bucks they will look brand new. I can always buy a set of repop ones if I bitch them up. I did a set a while back it was a pain in the ass. I learned a ton so this time it should be easy.

Got the tires on today. Also a new sprocket. I went with a Pirelli phantom sport 100.90.18 for the front. Shinko stealth 003 180.55.18 in soft for the rear. I went with the shinko because it will hook up better than any other tire in that size and I went with the phantom because it's Z rated like the rear and it is also a hard size to find in Z rated. Also it looks similar to the shinko. I really wish they matched but not much I could do.

Nice!!! I miss my old kz. This is my last one. I went all out on this bike, fully built 1327 with a J model head, it was a beast.

Looks nice. I got the turbo kit all cleaned up it looks pretty good. Spent 50 bucks on just the nuts and bolts chrome and stainless. Still waiting on the powder coater. I imagine it will be a week or so. Going to run out of money unless it warms up around here. Bike sales are not the best when there is 3 or 4 feet of snow on the ground.

Got the chassis together. Everything is looking pretty good. Still have to get the forks on and obviously a ton of other stuff. Mostly worried about the wiring and the paint. Selling the 1982 GPz1100 tomorrow sad to see it go. Also just moved into a new house with a huge garage. I can fit 10 more bikes in here.

Looking good - building one like that is a huge task along with moving and everything else. Can't wait to see it done.

Thanks guys. It is a pain in the ass to build a bike like this nothing fits. Everything must be tweaked a bit. But at least if it breaks I can get parts for it cheaply and easily. Can't wait to ride it. It's going to be black and white or kawi green and black. I can't bring myself to paint a kawi blue. Basically just down to the wiring and it will be done. Other then a few bits and paint.

Awesome bike, looking forward to a ride report, thought about a similar build but no time, no money, and most importantly no skills.

    Looks good... nice work!

Brings lots of memories for me... seeing the MRE clutch cover really brings them back. We did a lot of RD for Mike back in the day!

Tore up a bunch of stuff get some new items perfected but we were always in the know. MRE build some good products!

    Good luck... keep us posted!

That is bad ass! We'll need a video of the start up! What carb are you using?

Black paint and a Z1 taillight is all it needs.
