    New Honda duel sport CRF450l

Is Honda trying to get some folks back that went orange?

It's not cheap and it's only got a 2 gallon tank. It looks the part, though.

    Yup.

Reminds me of a couple of years ago when I would wonder: how in the hell are all of these young wimminz driving around in these expensive BMW's and Mercedes? Then I found out you can get 7, 8 and even 9 year paper (you can call it: a loan) on these things.

How much was an "enduro" in the mid 70s?

    $10k now was $2,186.66 in '75.

Grew up on Honda and Kawi Enduros. We lived in the rural Midwest on the outskirts of town. Dirt roads were a way of life. Thanks to dad teaching all of us to ride (60’s flat tracker and hare scramble rider) those skills learned safes my ass numerous times as a street rider.

I get it, but frankly even at that price I would strongly consider one. I like KTMs, but lack of great dealer networks as compared to Honda and the premium nature of KTM make me ponder this Honda more....

All of those unnecessary items add big $$ to the product that are not requirements for the target customer. It's a friggin' street legal dirt bike fer crissakes.

Didn’t say it was Tim. Simply pointing out they are trying to take weight out of it for the displacement. Most reviews I read on “Enduro” style bikes is not enough power and/or too heavy. So it appears Honda tried to resolve that. It fully wet, ready to ride weight is 289lbs. That is pretty good for a 450 with lights, gauges, catalytic converter, etc...

I get a kick out of every time a new bike is posted, FIRST post from a reader is “That is too #^#%?!? Expensive!” Yet, people (myself included) will spend that on their $2000 ride.....

The competition isn’t cheap either in this class and since this is brand new, of course the price will be premium. Like everyone seems to point out in these threads, wait a year and get a left over or used from the guy who thought he could treat it like a Goldwing and then realized it is not that comfortable on-road going across country....

    To each their own...

Well have you looked at the service intervals for most dirt bikes? That is pretty typical. If you really read the factory service manuals for most they call out top end rebuilds sooner that you would think. It is based on duty cycle, but 600 miles on an enduro is pretty good distance when you figure how much is spent off road. Then every three oil changes, a valve adjust.

The Rex is what like 12k valve changes? And 3-4000 mile oil changes, so again every three oil changes or so?

Bike low strung inline four vs high strung 2 cylinder is a different animal.

Hey Dirty Howie, super clean DT400's show up on eBay on a relatively regular basis. I too lust for a minty one, but none of them have been near me in CT. They don't go for crazy money either. Good luck!

BTW, my dad bought a '73? Kawi dual-purpose new for like $700. I think it was a 250. The first color photo of me is sitting on it at 1yr. old with a big, half-dome helmet on and a band-aid on my knee... I put it in my high school yearbook.

Wouldn't that be the Yamaha WR450f which has been around since about 2003? How about the KTM EXC-F series?

The Yammy starts around $9,000. I'm sure orange costs more.
