    Re: The stars aligned!

I have to get my butt into gear and get down for The Island - I have a mate that does it every year on his FZ6N from Brissy down.

Maybe this ZRX will be the one to do the trip with me

Thanks Brian, now to keep it stock

Will aim to get registration today and then go through all the servicing to see where it's at and determine what I need to do.

I've also committed to riding down to the GP next year with my best mate (who currently has my other ZRX) and another mate that goes every year.

Cheers Arash, just went and did rego and got the plates for it.

Engine runs well and feels strong. There's a click in the drivetrain somewhere though that I can feel through the bars - bit too slow to be bearings so I am thinking something to do with chain maybe. Will get it up on stand and have a good look - chain aint in the best condition.

So the chain was REALLY grubby (and rusty), and super loose. Axle was also way out of alignment - a good 4-5 marking on the eccentrics.

Have given it a good clean and fixed the above mentioned (although still a little rusty). It's still a little clunky, but way better. Guess I'll have to do a link by link inspection on the chain.

    Cheers Brian.

Found out that it has Ivan's smog plates on it, airbox drilled (I assume as per Ivan's instructions) - hoping this means it's also jetted as per those mods.

Will chuck the +4 in tomorrow and start ditching all the dampers (clutch, sprocket and pulsar).

    Yeah Dirk.......hopefully it is jetted.!

Only thing is though I see it still has the airbox .....usually when someone removes the carbs (for whatever reason) they find it such a pain that they ditch the airbox and fit pods to make carb removal so much easier "next time"

If you jet a set of carbs sometimes there is a bit of "in and out" rising needles...setting float heights...changing jets and adjusting screws etc..

Anyway maybe a PO had a lit more technique and determination than me...but I would hazard a guess that if you remove these carbs to check.....you'll be dipping into that mod budget and buying pods..

Looking forward to all your developments on this bike Dirk..

    So glad you got her..!!

Thanks again Brian, I'll get down there with a mirror tomorrow and see if I can determine whether it's jetted or not.

My mate owns a tyre shop and said he'd do me some Battlax S21s for $400 and another mate that has a Rex as well has offered to buy the Angel GTs! So I'll be getting onto some sticky rubber for very little! He'll do the swap for nothing for me!

    Re: The stars aligned!

Well being that yesterday was chain and rear sprocket cleanup - makes sense to get the front done ASAP.

Sprocket cover was a mess, cleaned it up and dropped out the damper. Clutch slave spacer looks to have been replaced recently

I tried as best I could on the front sprocket, but it needs to come off to be cleaned properly. Bike shop advised this bike had major service 4000km ago - there's a lot more than 4000kms worth of crud here.

Iíve never seen a shop clean that crud off in my experience. They just slap the new parts in and call it a day.
