    Re: PROTOTYPE single seat tail

Looks like an literal exact copy of the Compton one.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but wouldn't it be cool if you might have done something more original of your own?

    Just sayin'

    PROTOTYPE single seat tail

The Compton one is missing some very key details that he has added to make it cleaner/nicer for the street application.

Asyou will find in my first post I made more curves on this one , also blended a plate holder into mine and have no twin rearlight set up..
The big lines are indeed the same as the compton , but it was suppose to keep the ZRX lines , as it would lose to much zrx dna otherwise. So YOU KINDA STUCK WITH THE LINES if you want it to still look as a ZRX ...
But as far as copiing goes.. I started with cutting up a oem piece tail.myself..
Btw I met a guy in franchorchamps a month ago (there was a classic bike racing wekend) , who is racing zrx's for twenty odd years now as a hobby , and he SWORE he made the VERY FIRST ZRX single tail cut up..
Then he said to me ..do you know compton custums...(I did not mension a word of them to him....) I said ..yeah ..Whell he sayd I made them one years ago(in racing polyester) and now the sell them in carbon...
    just saying....
    thanx for the input Tiger.
    cheers
    Peter

James doesnít participate here on the OA so if someone can offer the members here a better tail (functionally and cosmetically) for less than the $695 he charges, I donít see any problem with that.

i think the addition of the plate holder and the ability to run a stock rear tail light really sets this tail apart from james tail. it looks excellent. cant wait to see one for sale

I might be an A-grade ass, but I'm not an A++ grade one! I just won't do it!

I think this tail from Peter is a great idea. So what if it looks a bit like the one from Compton? It's made from completely different material, he developed it on his own, and it's made for street use. I salute your efforts, Peter! I hope you sell enough to make it worth it!

    Hello
Well , you would have to cut you're rear frame tubing , if that's what you mean..
I certenly looked at the possibility of making a tail piece without cutting the rear frame, but quite frankly
the rear frame is just to long to get a decent looking set up..
You will end up with a loooong piece of seat cover like in the picture (webike sells them..)
To each his own , but that was not the look I was going for.
I know it's a big thing cutting up the frame (not technically , just mentally..;-) but I never ride with pillion...so I'm going to make the plunge...

To ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS...THANX FOR THE INPUT pro's and con's...we all don't have to agree with each other
infact it's great to agree to disagree..lol ....That's what makes the ZRXOA a great forum...!!!!!

That still looks good to me Peter, had I been able to find something like that at a fair price my build would have taken a much different direction.

That being said, I am loving your work and really keen to see it painted and mounted

Do you just chop the seat and recover it using the existing latch I assume?

    For what it's worth.
Make sure that you don't use too much cushioning in the seat to avoid losing the nice integrated feeling that the ZRX provides. Even slight changes in the seat height produce noticeable changes in the feeling of turns. Comparable to the change you feel when flipping the eccentrics.
An inch is quite a lot already in that respect IMO. My seat has been cushioned up less I believe and the difference is clearly there. I had to get used to that after I got the seat but now it feels fine.
