    Black Widow exhaust for ZRX

Well I'm currently underway with my 2nd ZRX 1200 build and have been gathering up some parts for it as the build progresses..
    http://www.zrxoa.org/forums/showthre...9-2001-tidy-up...

This one will be a usable everyday bike and as such I wanted a really nice 'serviceable' exhaust system and just purchased what has got to be the best bang for buck exhaust currently out there...

I didn't open up each and every part as I am not quite ready for it yet however what I have looked at is top notch ....and the price beyond belief for what you get.!!

Everything arrived excellently packaged and presented...

And to give you a snapshot of their service...I placed my order late on Wednesday evening....and then went on to place an order (from a separate company) for a silencer...

My intention is to discard the clamp type flange that Black Widow provide for provision of fitting a slip on muffler..

Instead I want to source two stainless steel 'hooks/clips' and have them tack welded locally and then get two additional 'springs' to facilitate this..
Well after placing my order late on Wed evening...I emailed Black Widow first thing the following morning requesting two additional springs and hooks (as I wanted them all the same..)

I was quite prepared to pay whatever extra was required...
No need as they enclosed all I needed at NO extra charge and got this exhaust out to me that morning...and I received it first thing on Friday...

Great service which is sadly not very common nowadays...!!

Anyway here are a couple of shots..

Link pipe that the flange fits on to (however as mentioned I will be getting additional 'hooks' tacked on to accommodate a different muffler..)

Oh and as you can see it does have a 'seperator ~divider' in place (someone was wondering about this in another thread...)

    I concur.

You should get the 16" round CF can they sell, very nice build and one of the sweetest ZRX sounds ever..... not that I have ANY ZRX exhaust note knowledge.

    Thanks guys...

I really don't know how Black widow can produce such a great product at such a reasonable price... (you'd pay as much .,if not more for a "brand name" muffler/can on its own....)

I put Black Widow headers on my ZZR1200, and find that they are excellent, build quality is tops, they are unrestricted and a perfect fit. I have them with my Staintune mufflers. The sound and performance is an improvement.

I hope they are not following this sight. You are giving them reason to raise their prices. LOL

nice write up & pics Brian as usual!

I bought same pipe just prior to the health issues. Never got chance to mount it...

The build quality is great; price is outstanding. Delivery to the West Coast USA in under a week! I got mine w/the baffle/can (don't care for "slip-on's" myself= prefer the whole pipe as a package. But that's just me....)

I'll get it mounted someday when I get close to riding again.

Re: Black Widow exhaust for ZRX

Indeed a great set of pipes Brian!!!
You know I am doing a major overhaul off my chrashed ZRX-S and a decent aftermarket exhaust is shorely in the pipe line....(get it... ) lol
If I dont find a decent second hand one (and shorly there as rear as hen's teeth)this one is on top off my list . The only things that's bothering me
is that those kind off systems are even lower then the oil pan off the engine..and with my speed bump infested country it's a dented pipe waiting to happen.
In that respect the HINDLE (see pic)is more close to the engine , as it splits round the oil pan ....but it cost's twice the price...decisions decesions...
If I would get my hands on a nice second hand one however.....(anybody ?? ...) ;-)
    cheers

I have one and it works and fits really well.

Let me know what you use to keep it clean. I'm an all year round daily commuter and after 16 months the headers start to show little points of rust. I clean it with SS cleaner but I did not "treat" it. Wondering if there is a good product that protects those pretty pipes...

No it's SS. Weight for just headers (no midpipe) was "around" 4kg - I can check tonight and post pics on scales.

Re: Black Widow exhaust for ZRX

Ok guys., as promised the moment my exhaust can arrived I said I'd post up some shots...

This is NOT a Black Widow can (as they mount onto the exhaust flange bracket provided with the exhaust..)

Rather I wanted a can that would complement the stainless steel Black Widow down pipes..collector and link pipe perfectly....and would be good quality..look expensive...but be excellent value for little price..

    Tall order..but I found one..here...http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/312075551698

Although it will fit the Black Widow link pipe perfectly...you will need to have two stainless steel spring 'hooks' tack welded on to attach everything..(this is why I requested Black Widow to include these parts upon placing my order as shown in my OP..)

Anyway here are some shots of the can...

Yes..., its almost certainly a Chinese copy of one of those...but in Stainless Steel.

Certainly incredible value for money at just £63

It'll be the perfect companion for the SS Black Widow system....

I mean this entire system is costing around £430...

Thanks Jaco.....the only criticism I would have of this can would be the packaging...

Although it did have a small covering of bubble wrap around the can itself...the other components (stainless muffler bracket/hanger....and the baffle) were somewhat loose in the box resulting in my can getting a couple of little scratches...

Annoying...!! However I was able to re buff the can with a scotch bright wheel in my buffing machine and everything is now perfect...

The other thing is the rubber insert for the stainless steel muffler can 'strap' comes almost "moulded into" an expanded polystyrene sheet and when I extracted it from that I initially thought that 'balls' of the polystyrene had become embedded in the rubber strap as part of it...

Fortunately this wasn't the case and it was just a 'film' that was easily removed with some mineral spirit and a cloth on a flat surface.....(it kinda rubbed off like a light film of 'glue/goop' ?)

Anyway all sorted and everything is perfect...but the scratch on the muffler could (and should.!) Have been avoided with better packaging..

    But then....@£63 you can't have everything...hahaaa.

I had the opposite experience w/packaging for the "full" pipe. It was (as still is) top notch. The muffler came in it's own boxed/heavily padded container (Styrofoam form packaged.) Even came w/a "bag" to put it in when not in use? Ya got me on that one...?

The pipes & collector were all "bubble-wrapped" each piece. I pulled the collector from the wrap to take pics for another thread here, & took the end off the pipes for pics. But it all went back on & back into the shipping box for storage.

    Not bad for US $502.

Yes Dave that is exactly how Black Widow packaged my system too...and it was indeed top notch.!!

The 'Chinese' muffler can was not packaged with the same level of care....not by a long shot.!!

That said....i'm overjoyed with it and can't understand how they can produce such a great product for such a low price..!

The profit margins must be quite small..

I think it's just they mass-produce tons of pipes. I know they are quite large into the (here) "Ricers" craze; which is piping your Japanese car. Tons of those cars are all over, many w/Black Widow pipes.

I have to wonder if the motorcycle crowd is somewhat overlooked by BW management? I do think they have started monitoring some internet sites (including this one), as I hear the biking end of BW has suddenly started taking off.

I did note the price increase as well. It's still a good deal; especially when you start comparing the horrendously priced pipes coming out of places we all know...
