    New Screwdrivers

After 40 years of owning Japanese motorcycles I finally bought a proper set of JIS screwdrivers.

Are these still a requirement to work on the "modern" Japanese bikes, like the ZRX?

What steiny said ^^^. Had Vessel's now about 10 years. And I thought it was ME that was phvcking up all those screw heads with my Craftsman drivers.

Well......technically.....NO. They'er not. But if you want THEE driver that mates with the screw perfectly (think: sweet sweet sweet love) than YES these are a requirement.

    Re: New Screwdrivers

Sorry, what I mean is, do the Japanese manufacturers still use the sort of screw that these drivers are designed to fit properly?

From your reply I'm going to with yes.

Methinks it's time to order a set.

If my 2017 Kawasaki Z125 Pro is any indication then yes they still are.

Order up a set. Otherwise you'll just spend that $60 on either: women; liquor; bacon or tits.

I don't see anything wrong with that, so spend it on that and spend another $60 on the drivers.

    Re: New Screwdrivers

I gotta admit, the Vessel JIS screwdrivers are a revelation on JIS cross-head ("Phillips" in the USA) screws. Fit perfectly, and no deformation of the slots. Wish I'd known about them years ago. Yet another pearl of wisdom I picked up on this site!

I could not find a set so I bought these from separate sellers on Amazon. Two came directly from Japan. $50

Me too. Some of mine are 45 years old. But they do deform the JIS screw heads if a screw is tight. The JIS-specific drivers, of which the Vessel brand is one of the best, just flat work with no damage to the screw heads.

    Re: New Screwdrivers

Does JIS have different sizes like Philips (#1,2,3)? Or would I be able to get away with just 1 driver? Might as well invest in a JIS if I'm gonna be doing work on the carbs or such where stripping ain't desired.

If you just want to buy one driver, buy the $15 one linked to in the quote above yours.

Yes there are different JIS sizes. That $15 one has a few different sizes for you.

    Sorry.

Never posted the link to the drivers I bought.

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Hozan-JIS-4-...72.m2749.l2649

No long-reach driver in the kit that is coming, but I've several long-reach drivers knocking about the place as it is. For all I know one could be JIS fitment. I'll compare them to what's coming from Japan to see if I need to pick one up.

Hopefully the price is not a reflection on the quality, same vendor also offers the Vessel range.

They also stock a 5 driver kit in the same brand as I/we bought. Price and postage is still very reasonable. I probably would have bought these instead, if I'd seen them earlier!

Yea, I'm good with the 4-piece set. I don't think that long one is worth another $10 bucks.
