Climbing crane. Climbing crane (or self assembling crane) is how all the cranes you see in downtown areas for building construction are assembled. It's pretty friggin' cool.

    Sure!

This one is black and white...absolutely no room for any shenanigans.

There’s two numbers next to each set of towers in the pic below. What do they mean?

Bonus points for the symbols above and below

The air usage "rights" you keep referring to are usage rights that have already been established. Those rights do not identify actual ownership and property rights with regard to original permitting and construction. That has always been your disconnect on this topic. You're viewing things as they are. I on the other hand am referring to how they got that way, and who has what rights to build what becomes the pictures and notations on your maps.

I have no desire to discuss this further with you, knowing full well that we are at an impasse on this topic. I was just ribbing you a bit.

    You brought it up buddy!

It’s the FEDERAL government. 100%, no question, no doubt.

You chose the wrong hill to die on this time.

A tower above 200 feet extending deep into the national airspace system has a clear cut answer which doesn’t agree with yours.

The FAA is the regulating or jurisdictional authority, not the title owner of the airspace. In some cases it is necessary for me to obtain permitting through the FAA to construct certain structures. Just as it is necessary for me to obtain permitting through other jurisdictional agencies to construct other improvements at ground level on land I or my client owns.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The national airspace system is owned and regulated by the federal government.

I didn’t know marijuana was legal in TX

So you consider the top of that tower as “ground level”?

Re: How To Change a Light Bulb

This reminded me of a day long ago in Milwaukee Wisconsin when I worked for the sound shop. We got a job to install an intercom between the transmitter building and the base of the antenna for WITI-TV. The tower is free standing and has a simple cage elevator from the ground to the antenna base. We used the elevator to go all the way up, install the intercom and string the wire as we came down. I thought it would be an interesting experience but in reality I was almost paralyzed with fear. The only way I could function was to focus only on what was directly in front of me and the immediate task. My older workmate had no issues, and did 2\3rds of the work. Every time the wind moved the tower, especially towards the top, you were almost off balance. A very long morning, but the weather was good and view amazing.

Re: How To Change a Light Bulb

My two older brothers erected those and did bulb changes back in the 60s. The younger of them would go up at night after the station was off the air to change the bulbs. Said he had to jump to get onto the tower because of static electricity. The oldest one died erecting one in Oak Ridge Tn. when a guy wire snapped. The tower whipped and threw him off. Lived a day. A fellow worker lived in a coma for a year after riding the tower down. Brother was only 26. Not for me.

Watching that made my hands sweat and my grip go away... I don't see how people can do that but I don't do heights as you can tell.

It takes some strength to do that... legs, arms and back... that guy would have to be in good shape.

Like 24 said, what to make sure you have everything you need before you make the climb.
