Re: Any of you guys into knives?

I have a few of my fathers knives now. I have been carrying the Old Crafty around for bouta month. It is really sharp and east to touch up. Enjoying it and the sentimental value it has.

Re: Any of you guys into knives?

The internet bug bit and I had to try making a knife out of a file. My brother gave me three old ones he had picked up at a sale. One for me one for him and one for my brother-in-law. Not finished yet but a good start.

Close to final sanding and tempered back. I need to decide if I want to put wood on the handle.

Decided to put scales on it. Roughed in and glued up last night. I hope to finish it this weekend so I can deliver it to my brother next week.

I like that nice, deep choil behind the blade. Allows for great control. I also like the look of the file teeth that you left in the blade. It gives it some extra character. Nice job.

That's legit!!! Nice job Mark, I can't wait to see what you have planned next. You've done the prefab kit, now some files.

Can you share some info/pics on the grinders you used?

Nothing special really. Run of the mill 4.5 angle grinders and a belt sander conversion mounted in a bench grinder.

A mirror image on the handle from another file would be cool.

Re: Any of you guys into knives?

Our Tractor Supply Store has some of these on clearance sale about 6 weeks ago. My wife bought one for me as a surprise. I liked it so much, and was impressed enough by it to return to Tractor Supply and buy most of what they had left. It has one Hell of an edge on it.

It comes with a very nice all-weather sheath.

    Yeah it is.

That rasp gave me an idea. Marry a piece of micarta to the flat side with the same shape as the handle of the rasp. Or even lime green resin.
