Re: Who is going for the new Z900RS?

Ok so although there has been a lot of speculation regarding this bike (some of it from myself )...today I got the chance to check one out...

I have got to say I was both relieved and very pleasantly surprised that it was not nearly as 'small' as we had initially thought..!

In fact it is a pretty good size bike....

I had both the parts guy and the salesman take some shots of me sitting on it.

I am a 5' 9" and almost 13 stone....so I guess I am a pretty average build and size) and the bike fits me perfectly...

Sitting on the bike it was a very natural reach to the bars which were quality indeed with deep chrome and they were tapered with a 'fatter' section at the handlebar clamp...they also felt nice and wide..

The bike was very light (although it was 'dry' with no fuel in the tank etc)

Priced at 10395 it is a lovely bike indeed ....and I am looking forward to getting a demo ride on one...!

Gotta say overall....there are a number of little things I would change (and the mods will be plentiful I am sure)

But hats off to Kawasaki for having releasing this bike....it's a winner...!!

Who is going for the new Z900RS?

That pic looks fine on my iPhone Brian.

That bike fits you like a glove! I know this is petty, but if I had seen the orange one, I think I would have been much more smitten.

Re: Who is going for the new Z900RS?

Yes Arash....I found the ergonomics were just perfect.! And the colour of this one would have been my first choice as it is just so right.....

I had heard and read opinions that the gap between the top of the rear wheel and the underside of the tail was far too large.....however seeing it in the flesh I found this not to be the case at all...!!

Sometimes phots cannot convey how a bike "Really looks" and you need to see it in person to get a proper perspective.

My garage is full now.....but if it wasn't I would buy one of these (in this colour) in a heartbeat.!!

There are one or two tiny niggles that 'just' are not quite right like the single horn in such a prominent position is not aesthetically pleasing....and the large Catalytic convertor with its cover shroud...etc.

I think the radiator and it's side shrouds look a little 'cheap' dare I say it.....as does the rear brake disk and it's caliper......

But these things are "Tiny" and easily fixed.....you need to look beyond nit picking like this as nothing released by anybody will please everybody in every area....!!

I loved it and I dare say given a few months and years the aftermarket accessories and mods available this bike will be a show stopper.

Someday I WILL have one (God willing)....and although I have yet to ride it on face value it's just great.!

It's in my local dealership now...so I will be looking at it every time I'm in there...

I can't agree more, Brian. It's so much better looking in the flesh than on photo's, especially in that colour!
I also WILL have one (God willing) as it reminds me of my Hornet 600, which was by far the easiest bike I ever had to ride fast on.
    I just love the Z900RS!

The Cycle World writer sure didn't like the throttle response. Maybe w/good reason as smooth throttle application is a "must" for canyon/twisty work.

I assume a re-map will fix this. Most will be getting a set of headers/pipes anyway? Thus they will need to re-map anyway...

That comment caught me by surprise as well, resulting in me having to re-read it a couple times to figure out exactly where he's coming from. Mainly it was this comment at the end that had me questioning the validity of the statement - ..."while white-knuckling the handlebars and trying to rein it in."

I had to wonder if maybe he's just not used to that type of engine tuning, which is quite different than the Z900 he is comparing the RS to.

Who is going for the new Z900RS?

Tankslapper here on the board took delivery of a root beer version yesterday. He is completely over the moon about the quality of the paint job and attention to detail. Very underwhelmed though with regard to the power. But hes used to riding a V-4 Tuono, so Im not too surprised to hear that.

Re: Who is going for the new Z900RS?

Santa came earlier than I suspected thanks to the diligence of my good friend and owner of the local Kawasaki shop that I have been buying bikes from for the last 30 years. Kawasaki paid such homage to the original Z1 on this bike that you really feel like you are going back in time when you first see it. Yes the power is not what I expected from a 2017 900 motor but that wasn't the reason I bought this bike. It stirred my soul and there are not many bikes that can do that. The last one that did that was my 1999 ZRX.

Can on of the moderators please fix the pictures. I give up.
