I have to say that your plane is in just awesome condition. I finally read this post and loved it. I have always loved airplanes. Always wanted to get my ticket. went to a flight school way back in my 20's and was told that due to the fact I have no depth perception i couldn't get one. later told that's not true, but who knows

My Bro-in-law promoted air shows all over the northeast and i had the opportunity to ride in allot of different aircraft. My first ride in a plane was with a stunt guy in what i think waas a super cub but not positive. my highlight was my ride in the P-51 "passion wagon". Only second on my life highlights first being a 10 min 0ne on one chat with Mario Andretti.

My bro-in-law had a 206 that i spent allot of time in and his pilot taught me just about everything you'd need to know. then he moved up to a Piper Navajo. I once was allowed to taxi out, take it off from Chatham Ma. on cape cod anf fly all the way to hartford bradley airport. pilot took over when we entered the pattern . still never landed lol. The navajo was said to once belong to John Wayne. never saw the log. said he used it to fly to vegas.

Thanks so much. I’ve tried to keep it as original as possible with a few tasteful mods.

Nowadays, if you have a drivers license, you can get a pilots license. Google “BasicMed”.

Not many folks have flown in a P-51, that’s awesome!

Thanks so much for sharing your story, it’s great to hear everyone else’s connections to aviation.

Looks like the Navajo gave up the N711VV tail number in 2001 when it was exported to the Bahamas after a sale.

My friend Doug is a captain for American Airlines, and has been flying all his life as a pro. He has one good eye and no depth perception. He is an excellent pilot and flight instructor.

We had such a great time. San Diego was awesome. Weather was unreal. Felt like summer.

Plus One Flyers at KMYF is one of the best rental clubs in the entire country. Prices have gone up a bit. Every plane is owned by a club member, the club doesn’t own a single plane and just offers insurance and the rental reservation and billing infrastructure for a hourly fee to members.

Packed up and fueled up, we departed San Diego at 11:30 am.

    80F on the ramp

    Goodbye Mission Bay

    Goodbye La Jolla

Goodbye giant mansions for the 1% 🤪

As soon as we were north of San Diego, we settled down at 6,500 feet doing 124 mph ground speed.

The number of containers at the port of Long Beach is staggering.

Long Beach Airport in the foreground with Ca Pete’s house in the background.

Hawthorne Airport. This is just before entering the Special Flight Rules VFR corridor over KLAX at 4,500 feet.

Look close and you can just see a jet crossing the shoreline.

    Overhead LAX

    Santa Paula Airport

After we were north of LA, we went up to 10,500 feet and big surprise, 124 mph ground speed.

At least we were burning less gas up there.

    Soda Lake

A private airstrip, named “WONDERFUL PISTACHIOS & ALMONDS” 🤣

My daughter was eager to climb up front and fly her airplane. She does not like straight and level flight, and is not timid about banking and pitching the plane! 👏🏻👍🏼

    Pinnacles National Park

Getting restless, but Monterey and Watsonville are finally in sight.

Just over the ridge ahead and we’ll be in the South Bay/San Jose.

    Mt Umunhum

Pictures just don’t do this justice. This jet was life size in my windscreen as it blazed oncoming over our head through the Class B airspace.

3 hours 40 mins to get home. Took us 3:30 to fly down so not too shabby.

Our friends drove the same route yesterday and it took them 8 hours.

Once we landed, I rinsed off the plane to get the dust off from sitting outside.

I always enjoy seeing nice, light brown exhaust streaks after a long cross country flight.

That’s it, until next time. 😁

I don’t cruise higher than 11,500 ft, so no portable oxygen onboard.

Even going up to the airports in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 11.5k does the trick so I thankfully don’t have to mess with bottles and masks.

The service ceiling of the plane is supposedly 15,500 feet but I’ve never verified it.

Thinking about springing for this extended baggage kit, which is just a couple panels of carbon fiber, but it more than doubled the available length of stuff that can be stored away. The stroller and other baby stuff that normally goes in place of one of the front seats could be safely stored behind the rear seat.

The actual compartment extension is a fraction of the cost...the bulk of the $1095 is for the STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) so that it’s a legal installation and can actually be used.

Tons of extra space, but you only get 50 lbs max, which is fine for the light bulky items I want to stow back there.

Still limited by the aft CG limit which would have to be calculated when the plane is actually loaded.
