Motorcycle Laws by State - General Info

    Hi Guys,

Just came across the following website that lists motorcycle laws by state. Thought it could be useful.

Thanks for the 'Heads-Up'! The info has been moved to an AMA website - I've updated the original posting.

    Thanks Big Harry

I looked through the Fla. section and it has omitted something very common . in 2010 - 2011 I was sitting at a light on my since departed Sportster when a FHP trooper pulled in behind me . As soon as the light changed and we went through , his blue lights were on . Pulls me over
and asks if I know why ?
    No sir .
    Your tag .
I look and see its still there ( amazing feat on a H/D I know )and I know everything's legit , so looked at him like he's crazy ...

And he says " It's vertical , not horizontal " . Then went to his car and printed out a page with the statute etc ...
    Let me go after a 20 - 30 minute " inspection " with a written warning . Was a 1084.00 ticket if he wanted to .

Also if front wheel lifts off ground at all , same 1084.00 fine .

I'll look into this more and post . Just giving a heads-up to Fla .

I thought Florida changed the license plate law since most of the custom choppers has vertical plate mounts factory installed.

Saw a new Harley that has the flip out side bracket/holder - you can use it straight or vertical.

Remember which one ? Probably 1000.00 bucks or more ! The non- flipper I had was about 300.00 aftermarket

I called the FHP office here and got the please hold line , waited 20 minutes or more still no answer yet though . Will attempt again tomorrow .

I know it was the matte black sportster. Now that I think about it some more - maybe it didn't go vertical - just tucked away for parking. Some kid had it - my memory is shot.

Recent Law AB51 (lane sharing) has finally passed both the Senate & House, & been signed by the governor within the last month or so.

It is not longer guesswork, or tolerated by the CHP, it is now CA DMV LAW!!!

Hopefully other states will take notice that after years of haggling, it's finally signed into law.

Ugh...I know it seems like a victory, but that bill is terrible and not a good thing for CA motorcyclists, IMO.
