Anyone else have to make a bracket to hang there Kerker meg?

Anyone else have to make a bracket to hang there Kerker megaphone because it wouldn't match up with stock mounting point?

The install went smooth after I fixed the 3 ovalized pipes (2 header and collector to meg) and removed some of the paint at the junctions. Everything drew up nice to the head, all pipes are seated firmly in their respective tubes, springs installed, and this is the natural resting position for the hanger (with it pulled up slightly).

I don't think I could get the megaphone hanger to line up with the stock mounting point even if I put my shoulder into it. The front of motor fit, oil filter clearance all look correct, it just seems like the mid-pipe should have had more bend in it. The inner spring on the mid-pipe to megaphone is close to the swing-arm but I don't think it will hit at this point.

Has anyone else had issues like this with their Kerker?

    Thanks

No. It should line right up behind the hole at the end of the peg bracket. Take that spacer/bracket off and pull the pipe up to match the holes.

I loosened the header bolts to finger tight, hung the pipe from the stock location and snugged up the header bolts........the mid-pipe is slam up against the oil filter cover, metal on metal contact! So I can't hang it from stock location. I do have a shorter bracket on it now though.

Whoever made the mid-pipe needs re-training because it does not have the correct bend and the megaphone end was severely ovalized. If I didn't have an exhaust pipe expanding tool the whole system would not have gone on the bike at all. What a spectacular piece of crap.

I will be contacting SuperTrapp today.

Wow. I love the Kerker but know their workmanship is crap. You case is even worse though! Wow! The "coating" on the pipes was my pet peeve. Look at it cross eyed and the paint fell off so had to get the brand new system ceramic coated. Be interesting to see your outcome. That sucks.

The head pipes on a Kerker meg are individual and unique to each cylinder location. I believe that you very well may have them in the wrong locations. That will change the location of where the mid pipe hangs. Take a 3/4 view pic from the front of the bike so that we can see the down pipes. It may or may not be obvious to a casual observer.

I did follow the directions which is not normal for me, and honestly I don't see how it would go together without the correct pipe in the correct hole in the collector. I really should have taken a picture of the collector (mega phone end) before I "rounded" it, it looked like a NASCAR track in shape, but that's beside the point, just shows the workmanship or lack of.

I will however grab some photos tonight and post here, thanks for the suggestion.

I talked to a nice lady at SuperTrapp and she requested pictures also.....she even went as far as calling me back to make sure I was going to send them. I assured her I was. I will be asking for a new mid-pipe.

    When bolted to stock location:

No clearance between mid-pipe and motor:

    When bolted to alternate location:

    Necessary clearance is seen:

I sent these pics and more to SuperTrapp, will see what they respond with.

So you can make it fit, if pulled up tight with no clearance between the pipe and the frame/filter cover? That's the way they all fit..

Are you saying they all have metal to metal contact when installed?

No. You'll have enough clearance to loosen your filter bolt, pull it out, then slide out the cover, filter, etc to do an oil change without removing any of the Kerker system.

way it's sitting mounted w/o the bracket he made shows it up against the filter cap.

Mtpat, referencing the first pic you have w your bracket. I dont know what the mounting directions said, but try eliminating the bracket, and instead of mounting the can tab to the BACK of the peg mount, mount it on the FRONT. That should provede the clearence around the oil filter cap, by moving the collector up, out, and over. Lemme know if that works. The clearence amounts look relative.

That is incorrect. Others have done it but it makes the meg/midpipe stick out on the right side of the bike quite a bit further and could lead to contact with the ground during righthand turns. Do I have to mention the result if that happens? It also does not look right.

Went out and looked at mine, mine's up against the filter cap. After 3 years it has rubbed the ceramic a tiny bit. Hardly noticeable next to the much bigger, off-road adventure scrapes.

I hear ya. I can see where the can tab is braced over to have it sit behind the peg. figgered it would put it out of line. i'd say that other can systems would catch a turn easier then a meg to begin w, so a little more out on a meg wouldnt matter that much IMO.

can you mention the results of what would happen? Please? Please?

so back to the shitty bend on it then. If it's rubbing, then there goes the finish, and an opportunity for corrosion...but looks like the finish isnt on all too well to begin w...

Corrosion? The factory finish is crappy, but it's an SS pipe.

    Quick update.

Supertrapp has sent me a new mid-pipe. I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but holding it up next to the bike it looks to have more bend.
