    New Again!

    Hey all,

I was on the ZRXOA board a few years ago. I was the happy owner of a 2001 1200R that I loved. Anyway, I fell on some hard times in 2009 and had to sell her. I've owned a couple of bikes since then, but I just keep dreaming about having another Z-Rex. I am in the market now, and hunting for that one that screams my name. I am trying to sell my current bike, and when that happens I'll pull the trigger.

    Great to be back here.

Welcome back and good luck on the sale of the old bike.

Lot's of nice ZRX's around, you shouldn't have to much trouble finding one.

    Re: New Again!

    ***Update***

Well, I got the new (to me) Rex home. I bought it from a friend that bought it from someone on this board about 6 years ago. My friend rode the bike for a couple of years, then got a ZZR1200, and the Rex sat in the Garage for the last 4 years. I'm in the process of pulling off the Carburetors and giving them a good cleaning and rebuild if needed. I got an awesome deal on the bike, and it is stacked with mods.

That said, I will post some pics tonight, and if anyone recognizes it, and knows who the original owner is, I would appreciate that information. I would like to find out exactly what has been done to the bike. The original owner was supposed to send my friend all of the information but never did. I would just like to know if anything was done other than the obvious.

    Mods:

    Ohlins Rear Shocks
    Lindemann Engineering Front Forks
    Muzzy Full System
    K&N Pods
    Galfer Steel Lines
    Brake Tech Rotors
    DiD Gold Chain
Corbin Gunfighter Saddle (Might consider trade for Gunfighter/Lady or Sargent 2-up seat)
    Pazzo Levers
Aftermarket rear sets (not sure of mfg'r)
    1109 Kit
    ZX11 Cams
    ZX11D Igniter
    Jet Kit

The bike was originally Green, but has a very nice Gloss Black paint job. I'm more of a factory paint guy, but this paint-job is very nice, so I'll leave it as is.
It has 21,XXX miles, but looks almost new. I believe the bike was purchased from a guy in Oklahoma.

    Pics tonight.

    Re: New Again!

    Hello again.

So for the past few days I've been super busy and I've had to just stare at the Rex sitting in the garage. The previous owner informed me that the bike had been sitting for about 4 years and that the carbs would most likely need a rebuild. He also stated that when he turned the fuel on, it just ran out of the carbs as the floats were stuck. So, last night I decided to see how bad it actually was. With one eye closed, I turned the fuel on and low and behold NO gas was spilling out. "Promising", I thought to myself. I had charged the battery the night before, so I decided to go for it. I pulled the choke lever, and hit the button.

    FIRE IN THE HOLE

The Rex fired right up. I let it idle for a few, and then wrapped the throttle a few times. It was backfiring through the exhaust, so the carbs will still come off for at least a good cleaning and inspection, but I have to say that this bike sounds mean.

A buddy came over and helped me pull the carbs off, and remove the fuel tank (which was full). It was like the guy filled the bike up 4 years ago and parked it.
The carbs will go to get cleaned tonight, and the tank has been drained of all of the old fuel. I'll also replace the plugs and change the oil this weekend. Wilst doing all of that, I will also swap out the tired rubber for a brand new set of BT016's. She should be ready to go in a week or so. Thanks to Jeff (Compressor59) for the phone consult on getting the carbs off. Those throttle cables were a bitch.

I'll check in again when she is all finished.

Replace the oil and the oil filter, there is probably some gas in it. Also replace the o-ring in the petcock, they go bad and you can't tell until your crankcase if full of gas.

Yeah, I always change the oil filter when I change the oil. I guess I should've specified. Thanks for the tip on the o-ring though. You wouldn't happen to have a part number would ya?

Its black, but no red stripe. This is right before I started tearing it apart. That is Bella in the background, she helped.

Sweet-looking bike, and great suspension/brake/engine mods! From the swingarm, it looks to be a '99 or '00 1100. Great score!

Is that a smiley face on your clutch cover?

I saw that too. No, it's not a smiley face, just two bolts and a glare.

    Re: New Again!

Well, I was able to get the carbs cleaned yesterday, and got new spark plugs ordered that I will pick up today. My SV650 finally sold, so I will "actually" own the bike later today. The carbs actually looked almost new for having sat for 4 years. I was expecting them to look pretty bad, but they were really clean. They have 128 main jets, but I kind of expected that with the Pods and exhaust. Tank is drained, and ready for some clean fuel, and the new tires will be mounted this week. Hopefully her maiden voyage with me will be this coming weekend.

P.S. I forgot to grab the part number for the oil filter, does anyone know it for a 2000 1100? Thanks.

    Re: New Again!

Well, I got the title today, and she will be legally mine tomorrow. Amazingly, the guy I bought the bike from had the contact and board info for the original owner. I was able to do a search and find out a little about the bike. Like for instance it has an 1109 kit in it and ZX11 cams. I'm pretty sure it also has the ZX11D Ignitor along with many other mods.

I sent the original owner a PM. His board name was/is "Skits". He sold the bike in 2007. His profile says his last activity was in July of 2011 which leads me to believe that he is no longer on ZRXOA. If anyone knows him, please let him know I would like to discuss the bike with him. I have a phone number and e-mail, but I figured I would try the board first.

I'm pretty damn excited about this bike. I'm just bummed that there are no mods left for me to do.

P.S. I updated my post that listed the mods. I found out a few things about the bike.
