I don't get it. What was fat-boy doing on the track? Was it a caution?

The guy in the middle of the S/F is holding a STOP sign, and the flagman at the edge of the track is showing a red. Call me naive, but at every track I've worked going back, umm, 45 years, you don't pass under red, and you damn sure are looking forwards to see why the red is out. Looks like the guy with the rear-shooting video slowed way down as he passed the S/F and 136 ran into him. The flagman wasn't the cause of it, just an innocent--and almost flattened--bystander.

No, the stop sign was not what resulted in the crash. But that wasn't one of your voting choices, now was it?

What caused the crash was the inattentiveness of the approaching rider. Maybe that's what you meant by "Rider should have braked sooner." Though it looked to me like the rider didn't brake at all. He most certainly wasn't paying enough attention to what was going on ahead of him.

Probably trying to glance down to see what his last lap time was.

The line was clearly not blocked by the flaggers, as supported by the fact that the camera rider never alter his line.

The dumbass shouldn't have been out in the middle of the track though, regardless.

This incident just reminded me of a close call at our last race. Took me a while to figure out WTF happened, once I got all the crap cleaned out of my leathers.

The bike I had been tailing for a few laps in an effort to overtake apparently was being black flagged for some reason. Flag person on the front straight suddenly leaps out onto the edge of the track flailing the flag, trying to get the rider's attention.....just as I'm catching his draft and quickly coming up on his rear tire. The rider apparently is startled by the dude jumping out frantically waving the flag at him and without thinking backs out of the gas. I damn near rear ended him.

me not being a track rider, my take is this: i didn't see any flags in the 2 corners prior. if a red is thrown, why isn't something thrown on the whole track? numbnuts on the last bike wasn't paying attention to the rider in front of him. numbnuts with the stop sign shouldn't have been on the track since there was no prior flag. seems like it'd be hard to stop for the first flag ya see when it's on the front straight.

from what I've heard, the incident that caused the red flag was in turn 1. No flag in turn 11 (last real turn minus the kink on the front straight) and the workers were trying to make sure the bikes were stopped BEFORE turn 1 (which is very close to the start/finish line). I can see why they were on the track. First two racers stopped. Third was not looking up until too late.

Where you there Chuck? If so you probably have the best info. On the BARF site they said it was for a incident in turn 8 where a rider had gone into wall & had been injured. They needed to stop the race to get ambulance to rider apparently? They also said a red flag was shown in turn 8 as well?

Keep in mind folks the front straight at SP is blind; once your into Turn 11 you can't see down the front straight until the kink while catching 2nd/3rd gear on most bikes= 100+mph. The thing that got me was the "rear-ender" locked up the rear brake AFTER holding arm up to acknowledge the red flag & signal to riders behind him...(sigh)...

the guy's an idiot.... he puts a hand up before he brakes, probably because "everyone else is doing it, i better put my hand up"..... maybe target fixates on the flag guy and the rider to the right of him slowing, missed him, but.... .... not doing the 'wide view'....

lessee... i put a hand up cause' i'm gonna slow/pit, but i do it when i'm still haulin' azz on a freakin' straight, so i'm gonna brake hard w/a hand in the air.... right.....
    Excuses don't win ballgames....
