    Carbon Fiber V.S. Plastic

I like the look of carbon so this may be a moot point, but does anyone know the weight savings of carbon fiber parts over plastic body work? I'm looking at a front fender for the ZX14 forks and for about 170.00 I can get a CF front fender. The front fender I have right now is 14.4oz. Trying to decide if the weight lost is worth the money right now.

Thats a tough question to answer there. If you are interested in weight differences then you must also concider manufacturing procedures (weight can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer). You must also concier if you want race carbon (very very light, but equally brittle) or street carbon, which is heavier because of the extra material used to give it some inpact resistance. overall I would have to say that a good set of street carbon will weigh roughly what it's plastic counterpart weighs, but the cool factor is way off the chart.

I'd bet it is stronger as well . I agree with the cool factor, just looking at weight loss as I still have a battery and other heavy bits to replace.

You might save yourself about 1/3 the weight of the plastic fender. So maybe 5oz.
    Stupid is as stupid does.

I have one OEM R1 fender (ABS I think) and one street carbon fender for my project and they weigh about the same. As said, a race carbon fender would be lighter.

Fibre glass and carbon are close in weight unless you go high end.

Ok, that's what I was wondering. I don't need CF yet to go for the high end stuff. I've still got some other low cost/oz weight loss measures that I can take. I'll keep looking on the fender to find one that will be light and CF

none of the money you waste on weight savings is worth the cost. it's only justified in your pea sized brain.

Sorry you don't have a centrifuge but at least you got to fly the stimulator. That must have been pretty cool for you

Sorry, read it again, my bad.

As for the simulator, I rode a little red wagon down a loading dock when I was a kid. It's probably a lot like that except mine was real.

no, it was nothing like that. actually, i wasn't impressed with flying the simulator. i was more impressed with the instructors skills to walk me thru it. he is one of our own from this board and a good friend to have. without him, i may never have gotten to fly it.

have fun with your memory of the little red wagon.

i don't want or need you or anyone else to kiss my butt, however a little bit of respect goes a looooooooooooong way. you are now getting the same respect that you have given me for the past six months.

Ok, from the first I haven't respected you. Your attacks on another ZRXOA member appeared to be without merit and I stepped in to try and reason with you. You were without reason but a lot of fun to mess with. Thanks for the memories.
