Bike Not Running Yet,...But Luggage Design Coming Along! lol

So, getting close to the Wildcat Mountain Rally. My beloved ZRX has still not gotten enough attention from me to fix the broken wire that is preventing me from cranking it over, but my luggage design is starting to come together. Designed a quick detach system that does not attache to the body of the bike, but the rear peg mounts. Pull two pins and the luaggage with mounts, slide right off the bike, leaving only a billet 3" long "peg" on the bike in place of the rear pegs. Using Nelson-Rigg CL1000 saddle bags as the luggage. They simply will clip on to the .25" UHMW plastic plates that are mounted to the T6061 aluminum arms. They will have clips/loops that will allow the tail bag to clip into them as well. Will post more pics as it progresses. Plenty of stuff going on to have this bike ready to go for the rally.

One set of these mounts are for my SV1000 and the other the ZRX.

So some milling, fabbin', cutting.... Almost done. Have to get it ready for the Wildcat. So far has come out like I planned. Some things got a little sloppy in my haste, but still should work well. Here are some pics.

Will be using the Nelson-Riggs CL1000 bags I got of of Craigslist cheap. They have the buckle attachment that will help make this a snap in affair. Will post more pics once it is done.

I just like the idea of having them clip to something other than the body work. I never carry a passenger, so I don't need the rear pegs either. Bags will simply clip into the UHMW panels and to remove them, you simply pull the quick pin from each side and release one plastic buckle on each side. Makes it easy to take into the motel/hotel room with you on an overnight stay. Plus, I can't seem to have enough projects..... lol

So almost finished. Have to make up some stainless steel cable lanyards to ensure the release pins don't get lost. I made rubber standoffs that have a "V" cut into them to securely brace the plate and weight onto the grab handles. Looking at possibly a re-design in the future to eliminate this, but at this point, you simply pull one pin and reasle one plastic buckle per side to remove. Also built the buckles in for my Cortech Tail Bag to lock into the saddle mounts.

We'll see how it works out this week for the Wild cat.

Good job on thinking outside the bag.

I bought some plastic film that sticks to the painted parts with just water. Cycle Gear ordered it for me. It kept he straps and bags from rubbing the paint off. When I got back, I peeled them off the bike and put them back in the package to use the next time. I have used them 3 times so far.
