    Rearset plate feeler (Biscuit's design)

    Gentlerexers,

I've been contacted 5-6 times this year asking to make a rearset plate like our Canadian brother Biscuit produced a few years back. I politely refused because it was someone else's gig and I wouldn't do it without their permission. Well, after the last time, I contacted Steve via PM with the following message:

I'm not going to do anything of the sort unless I get you're permission.

If you are still going to build them, that's cool and I'll just refer the requests to you. However, if you don't think you will, would you be ok with me making them? I've seen a few pictures and could probably develop one myself, but it'd be a heck of a lot easier to get something to the OA if you had some dimensions or a drawing I could work from.
I'm not sure how many of you have met the man, but just talking to Steve on the phone, I can tell you he's a great guy. He not only gave me his blessing to produce his design, but sent me a complete set to reverse engineer and have my way with as well and wouldn't take anything for them. Well, not that he knows about anyway.

Anyway, I'm going to be working on putting a run of these together sometime this summer and I would like to get an idea of how many sets I should have made. These are beyond the ability of my personal machine shop if I make more than one or two sets. I'm going to have the job quoted from a few places and see if I can call in some favors to get a good price. I'm going to try and get them out for around the same price they used to be if I can. I'm not positive, but I think it was just under $100 for the plates and hardware.

If your interested, please post here.

    Edit:

Well, from the PM's I've received, it looks as though a few folks still want this style for whatever reason. I will put together a small run and post them for sale when they're done. I'm not doing a big run because I don't want to my investment to sit on a shelf gathering dust. I'll keep you guys posted.

    Cheers

I've been looking forward to a set of these for over a year-posted back when biscuit said he was doing another run. I'm up for a set. Do you know if your run will cover the members interrested? Are you complying a dibs list or is it first come first served? Can I sent you $ now?

Thanks for picking up this cool project.

What I will probably do is take the number of interested members and do a run at about 80% of that number or maybe just take a count when the machining is ready to start. I'm going to look at how much my cost will be and if I can work something out with the shop I used to manage. I'm hoping they'll let me just borrow the machine and I can spend a weekend running parts and keep the overhead low.

I appreciate the offer of a prepayment, but Mr. Murphy of Murphy's Law is always lurking in the shadows. I'd just as soon wait until I've got them done before any cash changes hands. With what kind of mess could evolve if something did come up, I'm just not comfortable with it is all.

I know I'm going backwards here, but can you swap sides and turn them over to lower the pegs? I've got A knee that has had A lot of surgery pins, staples, etc... well my right leg does not bend as far as it should. I raised the seat a little, but that feels A little odd, too tall.

I'm not really sure, but I'll tell you what. If we find out from someone else who'd got them or is buying them that they can't be flipped upside down, I'll make you a one off, custom bracket to make it work. Not sure if it's possible, but I'll give it my best shot.

Looks like so far, it's up to about a dozen sets.

I'm meeting with a couple companies today/tomorrow to get some quotes.

I may eliminate the "pocket" on top, it's only decorative, but it might add a bit of cost, which I am trying to keep low.
