Made it back, texted Dave he made it too, we split at Springfield, MO.
I have no idea on mileage, my speedo broke at 1278. Somewhere over 3k, and at least a K of that was at a buck.
Decompressing and catching up on life, will post some more pics and a few videos if possible. Thanks for going along guys.![]()

Thanks, that was one amazing road. It was our first ride after getting there, it had quite a bit of traffic. We saw five guys on dirt bikes loaded with gear and camelbacks, they must have just started riding on the pavement and we followed them for a bit, after we passed they went off into a lodge area. We had no idea of the law enforcement in that area and thought it might be heavily patrolled. Not one, as a matter of fact the entire areas comes across as having been left alone, plenty of room for the wise rider.
The houses on that road ain't too shabby either.
Given a second run on a less crowded day, that would be sweet. One small construction area toward the south end, if any are headed that way.
again thanks
This was our third time to pass the Wankers, just had to get a photo, thanks Dave.
Same day we ran by this guy, it was too small to see in the video, but he finally let out a big grin.
Fun trip! I rolled in at 2:10 pm CST and was pretty wiped out. Covered 2796 miles in the eight days on the road. I will post up some photos soon.
Thanks for coming along and offering suggestions.
I think the best place to cross the plains now is Nebraska and prolly the northern tier route. Beats OK/TX and KS.
Gotta start planning for the ride next year!![]()

I'm there now. Staying at Main Street Manor Hostel in Lead. Clean, comfy, $25 per night. Highly recomend. Rode 16A yesterday, amazin'. Also Crazy Horse Memorial being carved on the end of a mountain. Google it. Fair amount of traffic now that it's the height of tourist season, but I got my radar detector and have yet to see a cop. At least 90% Harleys here, been to 2 Harley shops so far that sell only T shirts, I'll never understand.... Hiking today, another local ride tomorrow and back to Glenwood Springs early next week. Almost 4000 miles since my cams/ignition/valve spring mod, bike runs flawless, saw 152 indicated @ 9400 rpm on the way up Wednesday. Just me and,my smartphone, don't have the tap-a-talk thing figured out so no pics, I'll try and get some up when I get home.
$25 is a great price! Do you get your own room? Nice.
The area is really cool. The HD riders here have attitude for sure. We hauled a$$ around them.
Where are you now?
Rev
Before and after, about 15 minutes maybe, great place to eat with wonderful people just south of the Corn Palace. They
might not be there next time, possible razing of building for CP expansion of some sort. This was our only real log rolling breakfast
of the trip I think. RevRev3 had me on protein bars and oatmeal, which worked very well. I would eat this every morning if I could, that bacon would need a little help with heat though.
next trip plan on yellowstone, and spend most of your time in wy and mont. you wont be disapointed,
you got to ride both
heading up 14 onto the bighorn mtn rng
western sloop of the big horn, going down the mtn. note the rapids, white water just beside that cliff face

These are very nice! Thanks for posting as well Clay. You guys sure had an adventure. Reminds me of when we went a few years back and my battery took a dump on me at 104 degrees so I trailered it throught the badlands and rode this other guyīs bike cause his rhoids were flared up.VTX1800 through those nice corners. Oh well, I could have been riding in the truck with the ladies that were driving. No. I canīt complain.
I remember those bison burgers wreaking havoc on all of us in the group. Next thing you know everyone is rushing toward the bathroom at once toI might go back to Sturgis with my nephew in law. Donīt think I could handle riding with a bunch of harley mentalities again.
I have to stop and say this to everyone on the board. I have heard all this about how it isnīt what it used to be and how this, that or the other. Maybe itīs not. I still see it as a band of hooligans with one common addiction, maybe more than one, and we are spread across the US and other parts and to be able to just post up and say hey any guys around here want to ride? And itīs a done deal. I love that about this group. Since I am stuck here in Brazil without a motorcycle and only one person who knows english, my wife, I am looking toward the board to get my daily dose of common language and vicarious experience on the bike. Iīm riding by proxy.
When I get back I am going to have to just take off for a week and ride. Planning on a long one. Any of you guys up for some riding?
Here is Buffalo Ridge, SD
Arrived back in Glenwood Springs Tuesday afternoon. Hoternhell, lotsa ton up, 1898.6 miles, total oil consumption about 1/3 of a quart. The rex is amazing. Not much to add to what's already been said about the area, one of the best destinations I can think of, probably best after Labor Day to avoid the traffic.
The Main Street Manor in Lead is owned by Joan Irwin, a retired psycologist from Long Island. She can accomodate up to 12 at a time, but when I was there it was just me and one other guest, so I had a private room. There are no large "dorm style" rooms as in most hostels, each room is limited to two beds. There is a kitchen area, a large living room, and free coffee and oatmeal. Joan is a charming lady in her late 70's who genuinely enjoys meeting people. She has a great sense of adventure, having traveled around the world by bicycle, and is eager to share stories and information. She even insisted I park my motorcycle in the garage! The place is like a museum in its cleanliness, quiet and NOT at all rowdy. One of the best places I've ever stayed.
