Calling on the ZRX gods of the quarter mile.....

OK so NOW I did it….
I have run the test and tune nights off and on for years but was FINALLY
able to get a little consistent this past weekend.

Ran the Trophy bike class and got a nice trophy.

Bike is a 1224 with Yosh cams
    Front end is strapped
    lowered drag seat.
    Pump gas
Power shifting but with the clutch.
    Street tires with street pressure
Pretty sure it’s 2 teeth up on the rear sprocket.
(I am no lightweight at about 230 geared up).

My 60 ft was so so at 1.7784 to 1.9178
    ¼ mile times were 10.6615 to 10.7215
    MPH was 131.76 to 133.29

My question is HOW to get the 60 ft down in the 1.55 range?!?!?
    (Yeah I know PRACTICE).

Do any of the experienced among the collective have any useful advice
    on LEAVING faster?

I don't know sh1t but I would think you would want to lower your rear tire pressure some.

lower tire pressure ...practice launching without dropping the revs too much... slipping the clutch... soften rear suspension but not too soft for the big end ...

Howdy Greg! Did your tire spin? Then lower air pressure.

C10 is one of the best stock wheel base lauch pilots, he wheelies from a hard launch!!

The only other tip I know is, how fast can you go full throttle off the line? So can you yank the throttle WFO right after you let the clutch ALL the way out?

PS. 1.55 may not be reasonable without a stretched swinger.

Stock wheelbase is very hard. Takes a really good rider to get a low 60'. Its mostly throttle and clutch control and some very big balls! Lee Pritchard could point you in the right direction as I've seen him go as low as 1.48's and 1.49's on a stock wheelbase ZX14.

sorry Greg - but @ 230lbs and stock wheelbase it probably aint gonna happen - even with an extra 6 inches it will still be a challenge

    1. remove the seat, tie wrap a small plywood area onto the fram rails, this lowers cg and makes hard launches easier
    2. lower rear tire pressure to about 15psi
    3. stage just enought to light second light
    4. start rpm in the 4 to 5k range
    5. more clutch quicker without dumping clutch
    6. on a 3 light tree, start letting out clutch once your eyes sees the 3rd light, this is reason you stage as early as possible, so as to not redlight
    7. use a butter knife to open the rear brake pads so they r not grabbing at the line, old school trick

    Ah yes some GOOD info...thanks...

BTW...What is the purpose of running 15 psi???
When I run street pressure (36-38 PSI) and my usual latest compound sport tires I never get any slip...Hell I never bother with a burnout...Do not see the point....

lower pressure lets more contact patch, and you should do burn out, its to heat tire for more grip, if your not spining tire then up rpm launch, that reduces 60 ft timeas

Re: Calling on the ZRX gods of the quarter mile.....

I lowered rear tire pressure to 30 psi.
I will try using a burn out.

I am finally able to launch consistently with the front tire just skimming the ground.
    (No more sky shots).

Going to try a couple more tricks.
(I had one run at 134 MPH so I suspect bigger mains could help).

I will keep working on the 60 ft.

I feel like 10.39 is entirely attainable.

Good advice from these guys....On the tire pressure I usually keep going up on the pressure until it spins then back some out..But with your weight I doubt you will have a traction problem on the launch.....The harder the tire, the easier it`ll roll going down the track, less friction, more mph....E/T will come the lower the 60` gets....Shallow staging will give ya a few hundreths....WTG brother, keep on practicing....
