    Re: Kawasaki KZ1300 Turbo

We put a Mr. Turbo kit on one in '82 for a customer at teh shop I worked at. Took forever to fabricate a vanein the plenum to keep it halfway even across the plugs. Without the home made vane, it was rich on one side, and lean on the opposite. Anyhow, running a conservative 8lbs boost, it would walk a big bore with smoothies 900 like it was a moped. Impressive for a 700 lb motorcycle. Of course the idiot that owned it floated the valves on a missed shift, and it was in for headwork a few months after we turned him loose on it....

That is such a clean looking set-up.

Why hasn't anyone built a set-up like that on the ZRX, instead of the hanging-in-front turbo?

Because the blow through set up is much more efficient than the draw through system that Mr. Turbo used back in the day. Had another buddy with a Mr. Turbo kit on a KZ650, and he was always having to fiddle with it, and it never ran good all the time. If you remember, the Turbo 750, Yamaha's turbo Seca, and teh Suzuki XN85 all used blow through systems. The Kaw was EFI though, which made it even better.

Even though I have a turbo VW Jetta, I have never fiddled with any turbo. Interesting, for sure.

My buddy in High school had one of the original '79 2.3 turbo Mustangs (pre-SVO, draw through) it was bad about puddling fuel in the bottom of the intake plenum. He still has that car much improved. About 500 horse now.
