    Re: My quest for 300...

About spring pressure , why not configure the turbo to power up sooner instead of getting seat pressure out the ying yang ? It'll be more fun riding it with quicker spoolup anyway . Unless you're going for track use or king of the dyno , I see no reason to have to turn the motor to 10,500+ rpm .

Turn it less and the HD springs are more than enough . In fact , for my money , I'd leave the stock exhaust springs in it if you get it to make peak power around 9500 , shifting at ~9900 or so in full race mode , less when all the marbles are not being bet .

It'll be better on the valve train , better on the bearings etc . Win-win if you ask me .

Oh , btw , I'm sure you've told me before , but what have you done engine wise ? 1100 or 1200 ?

    Re: My quest for 300...

I have forged 1109 Turbo pistons.. MTC tall deck.. the heads had a little pocket work done (nothing major) . Stock crank and rods. compression ratio is 9.8:1 and I'm runnin either straight 111 race fuel (leaded) or 110ll Avgas straight.... What ever I can get my hands on. I'm currently running 17psi and showing 10.5-11 on my wideband under full boost... on long runs I see 11.5 ocationally but no leaner. Turbo is a Garrett T25 and it spools plenty quick.

I am not too worried about floating my valves at 10.5k.. my bike doesn't like reving over 9.5 anyway.. It kinda just flattens out around there.. I usually just short shift it and let the turbo work. I'm more looking at the pressure in the intake and exhaust runners trying to already push the valve open( thus relieving some pressure that is holding the valve train to the cam)... If a stock spring has 40# of seat pressure.. I'm putting 20psi on the back side of it... that only leaves 20# to hold the spring from floating (In theory)... That 20psi is there at about 5k-redline.. it starts boosting at 3.5k and is full on by 4.5k.. same thing with the exhaust spring.. there is some serious back pressure in the header that is keeping the valve from slamming back closed...

The T25 doesn't have the guts to make 300whp . You'll either have to modify that turbo or get one that'll flow 450cfm or better to do 300 . Or , the cheap way out is to do what has already been said ; keep what you have and spray it to get the rest .

    Re: My quest for 300...

Well .. Going to stop by the dyno tomorrow and see where I'm at for now.. Probly won't make the 300 just yet. Supposed to be over a 100* tomorrow and the dyno's gonna be outside. The "Cruize Night" weekend is here and a huge classic car show is downtown. They are having bikes at the eagles club.

I have yet to finish the intercooler or NOS install but this will be a good base run since the 1109 kit and more boost. I spent a few minutes fiddling with my boost controller this morning trying to squeeze a little more out of the turbo.. It seems to be stuck around that 17 range.. I "believe" that my blow off valve is the limiting factor now.. It's hard to tell while riding but something is letting pressure out once I get into high boost.. no matter what I do with the bleed screw. the BOV I use gives you some washers to put under the spring to add some preload.. I added 4 (I think) and the brass piston is a little tougher to open with my fingers.. I didn't get to take it down the road yet so well see tomorrow. gonna make a few passes around the shop and see what it reads... Its kinda tough watchin a guage under wfo with these things. I know I'm a little rich as it takes a gear to clean out and pull clean. probly good that I'm a little rich though as hot as it's been. More to come later.....

    Re: My quest for 300...

Well.. it didn't blow up!! Not as good as I would have liked though.. It would only make 15psi on the dyno... This morning I adjusted a few things and got it up to 19 for a few runs down the highway. Not sure if the dyno put enough load on the motor to get the turbo REALLY workin. Still better than my last numbers though...

    240hp/ 157 torque today

We made 4 pulls the first was on stage 1 the last 3 were on High boost.. .My memory card was full and wouldn't record the second two

the second 2 sounded way better... first 2 were a little stuttery... again I know I'm a little rich and it took a couple to clean it out and burn the plugs clean...

Rob's gonna get some incredible coaching and advice from a guy who just happens to know a thing or two about getting reliable 350 hp + (yes, you read that right) out of a carburetored inline 4 Jap engine. You'd be smart to join us for the V.I.P.I.R. pre-function at the Area 51 top secret location in a couple of weeks.

How exactly can someone find the "top secret" location ? And is there a time that gives a wee bit more precision than "a couple of weeks ? And who is it that knows "a thing or two" ?

The paper say 19psi.. that is what I told the guy running the computer.. Paul ( the guy on the bike) said it was only showing 15 on the guage.. and it was HOT!!

I'd bet money that 200 is low what it'll do.The comparison between the rally and how its running now is apples and orangutans clutch is biting solid now (new 82lb springs) running 17/41 gearing it'll wheelie thru 3rd easily and skating the front tire in 4th with the 1109 and 14/15 lbs of boost currently its a whole new critter its still way rich (which will be adjusted prior to the runs) and will maybe be pushing a little more boost when it goes on the dyno we'll see but regardless what it puts down I couldn't be more tickled with it if I had a feather on my balls

    Re: My quest for 300...

Rob...200 should be pretty easy with that kinda boost levels.. I hit 199 with 12 psi on stock pistons.. lower compression though and 6* pulled.
What do you think of those springs?? won't take long to have popeye forearms huh?

I wasn't too dissapointed with 240 @ 15psi.. quite pleased actually.. I was just hope to see more boost and higher numbers. I knew I wouldn't get to my 300 mark but was wanting to get a little closer. I want to figure out why I can't get it to hold with more boost. Tried adding pressure to the BOV spring.. no change modded the boost controller bleed adjuster screw.. no change.. . put more tension on the wastegate actuator and seen a few # gain... went a little more... gained a few more... left it at 19#.... went to dyno only got 15. When it was hitting 19 it wouldn't hold it very long... only under Heavy acceleration... once It was all wound up and I was just holding it there it would drop back down. My actuator might just be getting pushed open?? not sure yet...

Yea I don't see passing the 200 mark a problem and you're right on those springs only put about 100 miles on it with em but its definitely a forearm builder (giggity) I'll be plenty happy if/when it pulls 240+hp not a thing wrong with those #s

Your already playing with 14/15lbs of boost! Your playing with fire. Any higher and you better be running race fuel or we'll get to hear about another turbo going BOOM! That won't tickle as much as the feather.
