    Carb Needle Washers placement.?

So have done a lil recon here and still unsure on the washer placement.
I dropped off the carbs for ultrasonic and forgot to pull off the top of the carbs.
So i pick up the carbs with a bag full of bits and not sure where the 8 (#4 washers in the pics) go.
i assembled it with one on the top and bottom. Worried the one under will raise my needle hight too much.
Are they suppose to be both on the top to stablize the needle.?
Guy that did I the ultrasonic is not open until Tuesday to ask.

This bike is somewhat new to me, have 4 k on it and ready to start tuning it, but wanted to be sure thngs were clean first. It was not as crisp as my buddies down low, but even after 4k.

Not sure how on the carb setup differss from stock, was told it was jetted for the full Hindle.
    What I do know.
35 pilots, screws @ 1.5 turns out. Looks like 094 mains.
Not sure on an airbox mod, has a KN slipped in.

Thanks to Dimora's post for refferance.

    carb parts.
Emulsion tubes (Main jets screw into these)
    2. Main jets
    3. Idle mixture screw springs
    4. Washers from needles
    5. Idle mixture screw washers
    6. Float pins
    7. Pilot jets (These are very susceptible to clogging / smegma)
    8. Idle mixture screws (tips of these always get dirty in uncleaned carbs)
    9. Needles with clips installed. These are Factory Pro ones pictured
    10. Float Bowl drain screws
    11. Those guys go in the carbs before the emulsion tubes are screwed in. Tapered end faces the inside of carbs.
    12. Float valve needles.

As long as you have two washers on each needle your OK. Now where the were before the carbs were cleaned is another story. One on top and one under only raises the needle a half step. You most likely won't notice much difference. If it does feel too rich in the mid range just put both washers back on top.

I hate those washers! I just got mine all together and its acting funny. Finally got the backfiring mostly gone on decel but it is surging a little. Basically the revs go up and won't come down without assistance from the idle knob. I assume it may be because I put "0" washers on my needles. Can I go without or are these very necessary?

Thunder, sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Sorry, I didn't know. There is just no way in hell I can keep up with all the people who either quit-in-a-huff or are banned from this forum.

The washers are VERY necessary. If they are not installed the needles just rattle around in the diaphram/slide and your jetting will be very erratic. The stock needles have a thick nailhead design that keeps them in place. The thin C-clips used on jet kit needles will allow the needles to bounce up and down without the added washers to take up the slack.

I have the same problem with my 250, and it's bad!! I will heed the slop factor. I just thought that the washers were for richer or leaner. The guy at the bike shop said beware of slop or those needles with bounce around. Might be part of the roughness I've in the ZRX ever since I installed Ivan's about 8 years ago......

Scott, Ivan's kits use (3) washers on each needle I believe. All three on top of each needle clip or two on top and one underneath if you want to adjust the needle a half step, i.e.; clip in the 3rd slot + 3 washers on top = needle position 3 - or - clip in the third slot + two washers on top and one below the clip = needle position 3.5.

Glad I didn't fly the planes you wrenched on.
