    Alittle cornfused with this.

Hello fellow Rexers! I have what might be a dumb question to a few of you. I bought a D#487 MOTOITALIA belly pan 2 years ago and im just now getting to installing it. It came with 4 straight metal straps about 4 inches long and have a 6mm press on nut on one end,no instructions. How would this bolt on to the ZRX1100? Do i bend these and drill a hole on the blank end to mount somewhere?

I have never mounted one but I have seen a few on ZRXs. My guess would be that those straps are designed to be wrapped around the frame tubes at the 4 mounting points on the pan. You then bolt the pan on through the strap and nut.

Without any pics of your pan or the hardware that's the best help I can offer.

TGHW, I was afraid thats how they expected you to put this on. Im not about to scratch my frame rails over this thing, the pan fits flush with the bottom side of the rail instead of covering them on up the side. If that is the way it mounts, the straps would show and look like sh..t! I'll see if i can figure out how to post a pic of what i have. I searched and read all of the bellypan posts on here and didnt see any up close pics of how other people are mounting theirs.

    Re: Alittle cornfused with this.

I may be out in left field but the straps look to me to be designed to:

    - Shape to to the frame rail
    - Cut off excess
    - Weld to the frame

I doubt anyone would design a body mount that just wrapped in place. A couple of removals and the wrap would be shot. On top of that it would appear to be a dangerous method as they could/would loosen and you'd have a pan to run over.

Alternative method may be to use padded Adel clamps and bolt through the pan. Adel clamps are available in many sizes and most are rubber padded. No frame scratch and it would be secure.

Just my .02$ for what it's worth

P.S. I'm not a big enough fan of them to go through dismounting and remounting for maintenance. I've seen some bikes where they look really good and others where it just doesn't fit the theme of the bike.

    Wow, another .02$ for free

Blown32, Thanks for the info. im not sure what to do with it. I know I have to do some trimming for the Muzzy header but im thinking I paid $300 for this thing and ive seen better looking pans on members bikes that doesnt look like they mount and thing like this p...poor set up. I should have known better i guess.

Well i sent 4 emails since my last post and havent heard from them. So im going to shove it to the side and finish other things that need done before I get my rex back on the road. Would any of you know of a good place to send my head pipe for ceramic coating? I would like a place that offers a coating that lasts. I ran at the Bonneville salt flats last year and the salt ate the nickle like coating off the Muzzy.

Muzzy headers are not coated with anything. They are SS.

To weld those tabs to the bottom of the frame, 2 would need to be aluminum and the other 2 steel.

Some belly pans use a rubber coated clampish device to fasten the shell to the frame.

It's possible yur threaded tab doo dads were part of a clampy type affair.

Sorry for all the techy type terminology.

If you look close you can see some kind of coating flaking off, the whole thing had this on it. I just walnut shelled the header and plan on ceramic coating it.Name: SAM_0142.JPG

Blown32 told me about the Adel clamps. Might be what your talking about, Im going to purchase some and see what they look like, I really dont like the idea of welding brackets to my frame. If i cant figure this one out, I'll buy one that fits better and has a better way of mounting.

That header has already been painted/coated with something already. They don't come like that new.
